WWE Rumors: Triple H Vs. The Rock ‘WrestleMania’ Match Teased During Recent Interview

Could there be a Triple H vs. The Rock match in the works for WrestleMania? Based on recent comments made by one of the two legendary superstars, and a previous promotional segment the two cut, it seems the possibility has definitely been put out there. “The Game” was recently in India ahead of the upcoming WWE events tour that will take place there. During his time, Triple H (real name Paul Levesque) spoke with the Facebook office for India and dropped a major tease regarding himself and “The Great One” possibly battling inside the squared circle at Mania.

As Sportskeeda’s Rohit Nath reported on Thursday, Triple H was on Facebook Live for that interview in the Mumbai Facebook office, and a possible future match was brought up. Triple H discussed how he and The Rock have a competitive relationship and are still on “friendly terms” too. He also brought up a bit of promotional work that he and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson did several years ago ahead of SmackDown’s 15th anniversary and WrestleMania. During that segment, Rock brought up he and The Game squaring off in the main event one more time on “the grandest stage of them all.” That tease got fans fired up for the possibilities and Triple H still realizes the fans may want it.

That tease got fans fired up for the possibilities and Triple H still realizes the fans may want to see it.

“About two years ago, he and I (The Rock) did a backstage promo with each other where we talked about WrestleMania, and the competitive nature of it and it lit up the internet about the possibility of it. It’s something we’ve discussed. It’s just making schedules work, he’s pretty busy I am too. But hey, right place, right time? I’ll dance one more time with The Great One, Rock.”

The two crossed paths at a previous WrestleMania, as part of a segment that also involved Ronda Rousey and Stephane McMahon. During WrestleMania 31, Rock was in-ring along with “The Authority,” who started to give him trouble. When Stephanie McMahon got into The Rock’s face, he enlisted the help of Ronda Rousey, who was in the front row of the crowd. Rousey proceeded to manhandle both Triple H and Stephanie, drawing a huge pop from the crowd.

As mentioned above, Triple H and The Rock also appeared on a teaser segment during a SmackDown episode in 2014. The two went face-to-face while cutting a promotion about their previous battles in the “good ol’ days” and even teased lacing up the boots to fight again at WrestleMania.

While the concept has been teased, it seems that Dwayne Johnson is now focused on the Hollywood career and not risking any more injuries. He competed at several WrestleMania pay-per-views over the past five years taking on top superstar John Cena. The two were 1-1 against one another in those main event bouts, but Rock also suffered several injuries that hurt filming for a role he had in a blockbuster film.

The Rock was reportedly injured during his match at WrestleMania 29 against Cena, suffering a hernia, torn adductor, and a torn abdominal muscle. That injury put filming on delay for one of Rock’s movies, and since then, he really hasn’t got involved in WWE matches or fights. He participated in a quick match against Erick Rowan of The Wyatt Family at WrestleMania 32, but it lasted six seconds due to that concern over a possible injury. Still, there’s always the possibility he could decide to return and show the WWE fans some love.

Triple H has continued to work wrestling matches, though. He participated in a bout against Seth Rollins at this past year’s WrestleMania 33. There have been WWE rumors and teases of “The Game” being part of next year’s lineup as well with everyone from Kevin Owens to SmackDown General Manager Shane McMahon or Raw General Manager Kurt Angle being teased as potential opponents.

All of that said, the match would be fun to see, but shouldn’t be expected to be a main event at Mania. That spot seems reserved for “The Big Dog” Roman Reigns, Brock Lesnar, and hopefully other rising stars from the WWE rosters.
