Ryan Gosling A Criminal Father In ‘The Place Beyond The Pines’ Trailer

There was much talk about what would be the forthcoming collaboration from Ryan Gosling and his Blue Valentine director Derek Cianfrance. The two seemed to have enjoyed working together, and Derek’s organic improv-like way of capturing a “lived in” narrative seemed to jive with Gosling.

Soon after Blue Valentine, it was announced that the two were working together on a gritty new film titled The Place Beyond the Pines. Not much was known about the film other than it resulted in a real-life romance between Gosling and his costar Eva Mendes.

Now the trailer for The Place Beyond the Pines has dropped, which featured a banged up, motorcycle, leather-wearing Gosling who turns to crime in order to support his son after he finds out about the boy’s existence. Gosling, who dyed his hair platinum for the role plays opposite Eva Mendes, and Bradley Cooper, the latter who plays a cop ready to track Gosling down for his crimes.

The plot for The Place Beyond the Pines reads as follows:

“Luke (Ryan Gosling) is a professional motorcycle rider who turns to bank robberies to support his newborn son. But when he crosses paths with a rookie police officer (Bradley Cooper), their violent confrontation spirals into a tense generational feud. The Place Beyond the Pines is a rich dramatic thriller, tracing the intersecting lives of fathers and sons, cops and robbers, heroes and villains.”

There’s a lot of promise for The Place Beyond the Pines, as it was one of the first films to be picked up for distribution out of the Toronto International Film Festival by Focus Features. The film drops into theaters on March 29, 2013.
