Man breaks world record for longest Grand Theft Auto IV session

Chirantan Patnaik, a 26-year-old gamer from Mumbai, has broken the world record for the longest time spent playing Grand Theft Auto IV non-stop. Yes, there’s a record for that. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, Patnaik played Rockstar’s game for 40 hours and 20 minutes.

He did take four short breaks during this marathon, though the guidelines for the world record permitted him a 10-minute break every hour. Pfft, soft. Pretty sure I’ve done some GoldenEye sessions of a similar length, but this is Chirantan’s moment, so I won’t spoil it. He seems pleased to have broken the slobbiest world record going:

“There are so many other games which I have played for long hours. But I had never tried playing this particular game seriously. However, I knew that I can do it after I saw my brother playing it … I enjoyed the game very much. It’s fun playing long hours. It wasn’t that exhaustive for me, as one might feel.”

Apparently, the new world record holder exercised and performed yoga to prepare, and ate and drank coffee to stay alert while gaming. He beat the previous record of 28 hours and 1 minute, but now wants to aim for 48 hours.

Congrats to you, Chirantan. Now ferchrissakes, go get some damn sun.
