‘Tron 3’ To Start Production In 2014, Garrett Hedlund Will Reprise Role

A third Tron movie is in the works. Garrett Hedlund, who starred in Tron: Legacy, confirmed today that he would be reprising his role as Sam Flynn in Tron 3.

Hedlund, who is currently promoting his new movie On The Road, was pressed about the Tron sequel by reporters from Next Movie.

Hedlund said: “Are we gonna break this now? … Disney’s very excited. That’s about that. You know, yeah, I’m very excited, Disney’s very excited.”

The Hollywood Reporter notes that fans of the series have been eagerly awaiting Tron 3 but it’s still a bit surprising that Disney would be so excited about the third movie. The first movie, Tron, which starred Jeff Bridges in 1982, became a cult classic. Tron: Legacy, however, didn’t live up to expectations. The movie was considered a financial flop in the United States and many speculated that the series was over.

Last week, however, it was announced that is currently negotiating with Jesse Wigutow to create a screenplay. Director Joseph Kosinski is also rumored to be attached to Tron 3. Kosinski directed Tron: Legacy and is now working on the new Tom Cruise movie, Oblivion.

Are you excited for Tron 3?

Disney hasn’t announced any details about the new movie but the movie is expected to start production in 2014.
