Lindsey Vonn Opens Up About Depression

Lindsay Vonn is the most decorated skier in U.S. history but that doesn’t mean that her life is easy. The Olympic gold medalist recently opened up about her battles with depression saying that her life may seem perfect but she still struggles like everyone else.

Vonn told People Magazine that she’s been dealing with depression for several years. Vonn said that she currently takes anti-depressants to help manage her depression.

Vonn said:

“Everything about my life seemed so perfect to people. But I struggle like everyone else …”

In 2008, when Vonn started her unprecedented three year run as the Overall World Cup Champion, the skier said that she “couldn’t get out of bed.”

Vonn said: “I felt hopeless, empty, like a zombie.”

Vonn fought through her depression and took home an Olympic gold medal from Vancouver in 2010.

The skier says that she feels better than ever now despite the fact that she recently filed for divorce from her husband Thomas Vonn.

Vonn said: “All the parts of my life are finally in sync. I accept who I am, and I’m moving forward.”

USA Today reports that the skier is having a pretty good 2012 season so far. The Olympic gold medalist has one three consecutive speed races this season and will have another chance at victory on Friday.
