Sex Shop Uses Barbie Dolls For ’50 Shades Of Grey’ Inspired Window Display In Ottawa

Barbie and Ken are getting a little kinky in Centretown. Wicked Wanda’s Adult Emporium in Ottawa has created a 50 Shades of Grey inspired window display using the iconic Barbie Dolls.

Unsurprisingly, some Centretown residents have complained about the sex shop using Barbie dolls to sell sex toys.

Shannon Lee Mannion, who lives close to the shop, said:

“The store has gone too far … There are other sex shops in the neighborhood that don’t show graphic sex because there are standards of decency. Anyone shopping at Wicked Wanda’s already know what’s inside. It’s Christmas and kids want to window shop. I’m concerned that we’re exposing children walking on Bank St. to sexual acts they shouldn’t see. We don’t show Playboy and Hustler in the open for everyone to see. Why are we making this an exception?”

But Wicked Wanda’s Adult Emporium sex shop store manager Mel Lockhart doesn’t see the problem. Lockhart said that the dolls don’t have genitalia and that the only thing exposed in his windows is tan plastic.

Lockhart told the Ottawa Sun:

“We’re a sex shop in the gay village, so community standards are going to be different here. They’re only dolls. People who live in the neighborhood can talk to us if they’re offended by it, but we haven’t had many complaints.”

Mannion has filed a formal complaint to the Bank St. Business Improvement Association but the display still proudly sits in the window of Wanda’s Wicked Adult Emporium.

After receiving a few complaints the store decided to post a message next to the display: “None of these dolls are putting up resistance or fussing about being put in these compromising positions. Notice how all the dolls are smiling happily.”Do you think they are too pornographic for a window display? Should the 50 Shades Of Grey inspired scene be removed.
