Kate Middleton Wears A Daring Marchesa Dress And Princess Diana’s Favorite Tiara, Looking Reflective

Wednesday night, the glittering tiaras and elegant finery were brought out for a very special occasion: King Felipe VI and Queen Leitiza of Spain were honored at Buckingham Palace during a state banquet.

The royal family was ready with their charm offensive. The unspoken issue at hand is Gibraltar, and the royal family put their best foot forward, with the queen “downplaying” any sort of tension between Britain and Spain over Gibraltar.

Although Kate Middleton was not in any official photos taken for the distinguished event, the ones that were released showed glimpses of her, and she looked especially lovely. The big surprise was that the Duchess of Cambridge was wearing the most revealing gown she has ever worn. It was a bespoke pink, scalloped lace Marchesa dress with peplum, a very low-cut neck, and jaunty bell sleeves.

According to the Daily Mail, around Kate’s neck was a heavy gold and silver, diamond and ruby necklace. This is the priceless Ruby and Diamond Floral Bandeau. Once owned by the Queen Mother, Kate borrowed the necklace from the Queen to wear on this occasion. The exquisite piece was given to the Queen as a wedding gift from her parents.

In addition, Kate wore her classic diamond and pearl earrings, which looked elegant, but it did not compete with her other jewelry.

On top of her head, star and center, was Princess Diana’s beloved Cambridge Lover’s Knot tiara. In 1914, Queen Mary had this tiara personally designed from diamond and pearls by the royal jewelers, Garrard.

The tiara was given to Diana by the Queen on her marriage to Charles. After Diana’s death in 1997, the tiara was safely stored at Buckingham Palace, until Catherine wore the family heirloom on her marriage to Prince William in 2011. Many royal watchers may remember Kate wore the tiara in the royal Christmas card this past year.

Yet, based on photos from the event, her expression remained reflective, almost somber. The Mirror stated that their belief was that the popular Duchess of Cambridge was careful not to upstage the Queen of Spain.

They also surmised that Kate looked reflective, perhaps thinking of Princess Diana. She was wearing the tiara that Diana so loved, and with the 20th anniversary of her death just six weeks away, the late princess is on everyone’s mind.

On July 1, William, Kate, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, Prince Harry, and Diana’s siblings held a memorial at Althorp, where Princess Diana is buried, in order to honor and remember Princess Diana’s birthday on the day when she would have turned 56.

What do you think of the glimpses of the Duchess of Cambridge’s dress? Do you think she had a somber look because of the upcoming anniversary of Princess Diana’s death? Please share your thoughts below.
