‘Homeland’ Season 7 Spoilers: New Setting Revealed And Peter Quinn’s Fate Confirmed

Homeland Season 7 will not be set in a foreign location. The new season will stay put in the U.S.; however, the show will now be filmed in Central Virginia and not in New York City like the previous season.

The critically-acclaimed series returned to the U.S. last season after being set in Pakistan-Afghanistan (shot in South Africa) and Berlin, Germany in Season 4 and Season 5 respectively. In Homeland Season 7, Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) will continue to fight her battles in the U.S., and according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch, the show will begin filming in the Richmond area this fall.

Virginia was selected as the filming location because the state “plays well into the storyline” for Homeland Season 7, according to Fox 21 Television Studios’ spokeswoman. In a statement, showrunner Alex Gansa said that the state’s cities and neighborhoods and people would “surely provide a rich backdrop” for the new season’s story.

The previous season of Homeland ended with Carrie staring at the Capitol Hill, probably contemplating her next move, after Elizabeth Keane (Elizabeth Marvel) betrayed her. The episode also saw the death of Peter Quinn (Rupert Friend). He died while trying to protect Carrie and Elizabeth from the bullets fired by the police.

Homeland Season 5 finale, too, had almost killed Quinn, but he survived and returned to play the role of the male lead in Season 6. This time, however, Quinn is dead for sure. TV Line has confirmed that Quinn would not be resurrected in Season 7 of Homeland.

“Quinn is dead. Homeland already pulled one too many bait-and-switches on us with regard to Rupert Friend’s invincible hitman. The. Dude. Is. Dead.”

The characters who are set to return along with Carrie are Saul Berenson (Mandy Patinkin), President Elizabeth, and the President’s new hatchet man David Wellington (Linus Roache). Meanwhile, it is not certain whether Dar Adal (F. Murray Abraham) will make an appearance in the upcoming season, according to TV Line. F. Murray Abraham’s character was incarcerated in Season 6 finale.

The next season will see Carrie returning to the intelligence business after a break of two years. Post-Homeland Season 6 finale, Alex Gansa confirmed to Variety that it was time for Carrie to be once again part of the intelligence community after she had been out for two years. He also said that they would have to construct “some sort of narrative” to allow Carrie’s return.

Homeland Season 7, the penultimate season of the series, is expected to premiere sometime in early 2018. The series has already been renewed for Season 8, which will be the final season.
