2043 Census Prediction Reveals Fear Of A Black Planet [Twitter Reacts]
Commentary | Brace yourself, Bill O’Reilly — the 2043 census prediction reveals that your prognostications are on track to come to pass, and in 30 short years, white people will not be the majority in America. (The Fox News talking head famously lamented as Mitt Romney lost on election night that “the white establishment is now the minority,” cheerfully blind to the fact a white majority had brought us centuries of oppression, systemic racism, rampant sexism, exposure to Billy Joel and Crocs… )
The 2043 census predictions are stark and terrifying… for racists. But as we revealed earlier in our initial report on the new data, the numbers projected for the 2043 census indicate a skyrocketing Hispanic population will upset the white majority run of 200 years in the next three decades, with all racial groups nearly equally being represented in number.
The Census Bureau writes:
“The non-Hispanic white population is projected to peak in 2024, at 199.6 million, up from 197.8 million in 2012. Unlike other race or ethnic groups, however, its population is projected to slowly decrease, falling by nearly 20.6 million from 2024 to 2060.”
So while many are discussing the minority/majority balance as a descriptor for the 2043 census prediction, what it actually seems to reveal is a retirement of the concept of same. While white privilege is likely to still exist and racial concerns will still plague us (Jim Crow laws came many decades after slaves were freed), white America will no longer be a numerical majority.
The rather benign aspects of the 2043 census prediction when contextualized hasn’t stopped some white people from freaking out about the headline, picturing, we imagine, an America in which the generous gift-seekers have taken over the show. Twitter reveals a still-shocking and unabashed outcry and fear of a black planet, with users making varied negative comments about the prognostication:
White ppl better still be the majority in america in 2043 or ima be pissed. #SorryNotSorry

In 2043, white people will become the minority. We will know the pain of our children getting free rides through college based on race. — Minty Hippo (@Igottightpants) December 13, 2012
One commenter on another site moaned:
“Of COURSE THEY WILL! By opening the border to unrestrained immigration and being given the burden to financially support them, it’s inevitable that whites will be a minority to the parasitic class. The lower 50% pay no taxes because the white middle class carries them!”
Yet another opined:
“I can see how this is going to happen. Most White women won’t have more kids than they can afford to feed, unlike minorities.”

(Pssst… pro-tip. Racists don’t tend to be friendly to Jews either.) Affirmative action seemed to be on the minds of many:
Does this mean that I will get handouts, freebies, scholarships, affirmative action etc? Whites minority by 2043! #TCOT globalpost.com/dispatch/news/…

Some are more ironic in their assessments:

More seemed unaware their comments were racially offensive:

As it stands, the 2043 census prediction only appears to be significant in regards to numbers, not culture — do you feel America’s changing demographic simply reflects a shift we’ve lived with already for years?
