Jobs That Pay $100,000: Travel Industry And Public Servants

Depending on where you live, jobs that pay $100,000 or more are decidedly middle class. Travel jobs are apparently a good way to work your salary into the six-figure range. Attaching yourself to the right politician can also pay off for public servants.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the travel industry is more likely to afford you a middle class salary or higher. The travel industry is the United State’s sixth-largest employer, with 14.4 million jobs, and 3.7 million of those positions paying salaries ranging from $37,500 to $100,000 per year. Two out of five workers who start their careers in this industry go on to earn jobs that pay $100,000 or more.

Being in with the right crowd can pay off big if you have a public service government job. According to The Miami Herald, the 62 top policy advisers and staff directors for Florida Senate officials are paid more than $100,000 a year. The recent salary increases for the 17 highest-paid employees total $252,000.

Rich Templin, spokesman for the AFL-CIO, commented on the hypocrisy of this pay raise to The Miami Herald:

“The mantra of legislative leadership is: ‘Do as we say, not as we do.’ They want to slash funding for teachers and go after state worker pensions, but they also see the taxpayer as funding their own little fiefdoms.”

Keep in mind Governor Rick Scott was able to finagle the Florida budget into shape while US Congress is stuck making minor fixes. Still, even teachers won’t be floundering in financial problems since according to TeacherSalaryInfo the average salary in Florida is over $50,000. Combine this with Florida’s lower taxes and cost of living and you’re living pretty good.

The co-founder of BizReach, Swimmy Minami, was interviewed by TechInAsia and he has found the real trick to earning top dollar is that you have to separate yourself out from other job seekers. BizRush does this by focusing on offering senior level jobs in return for job-seekers paying for this privilege. While BizRush is focused on the Japanese jobs market there is a similar competitor called TheLadders that is US-based and it’s track record for getting people those $100k jobs is supposed to be good. TheLadders even offers a free membership that puts some limitations on how many jobs you can apply to in a given time period.

What are you doing to find jobs that pay $100,000?
