It’s the year of Wonder Woman, so it’s only fitting that People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) chose to add a Wonder Woman twist to its annual selection of the Sexiest Celebrity Vegans of the year. The organization usually chooses one male celebrity and one female celebrity to name as the sexiest vegans. However, according to Refinery 29, PETA decided to turn 2017 into the year of the “Vegan Wonder Women.”
And the organization known for its dedication to helping animals had a good reason for changing up its usual system of honoring vegan celebrities. This year, there were so many sexy female celebrities vying for the honor that PETA choose three. As for why they’re called vegan “wonder women,” Refinery 29 explained.
“Call them vegan wonder women, because in addition to their various projects in the entertainment industry, they’re also making time to fight for causes they believe in.”
Those women chosen as the Sexiest Celebrity Vegans for 2017 have plenty of company, with celebrities such as Gwen Stefani and Kristen Bell also known for following vegetarian and vegan diets. But each member of the trio of female celebrity vegans chosen by PETA for the 2017 honors did something special that merits the award.
Adding to her fame as the host for World of Dance, pirouetting princess Jenna Dewan-Tatum is one of Peta’s Sexiest Celebrity Vegans of 2017. Jenna chose a vegetarian lifestyle when she was just 11-years-old after she viewed a documentary about slaughterhouses.
Dewan-Tatum helped PETA by starring in an ad for the organization that condemned the sales of exotic skins in fashion.
Joining Jenna in receiving the honors, Ruby Rose is another of PETA’s Sexiest Celebrity Vegans of 2017. Ruby, known for her role on Orange Is The New Black, has been devoted to serving as an activist for animal rights.
Rose even took off her clothes to participate in an ad for PETA’s magazine that sought to discourage people from supporting the fur industry. Also, the Orange Is The New Black actress has stepped up to advocate battling climate change by going vegan.
Just a glance at Maggie Q’s Instagram page shows why the Designated Survivor star was chosen as one of PETA’s Sexiest Celebrity Vegans of 2017 because Maggie Q is devoted to helping animals.
Just like Maggie Q’s co-honorees, she has helped PETA with her activism. She once made an appearance in a PETA ad as “Mother Earth” to advocate helping the environment by eating a more plant-based diet. Maggie Q also participated in a protest against Canada Goose’s fur-trimmed and feather-filled jackets.
For those who are thinking about following a vegan diet but are put off by the idea of tofu 24/7, Jenna recently shared her own plant-based diet. And it’s overflowing with tasty foods, pointed out Self magazine.
Known for both her acting and dancing, as she showed in Step Up, one of PETA’s Sexiest Celebrity Vegan of 2017 has joined her husband Channing Tatum in showing how they’ve achieved relationship and life goals. Looking happy and healthy since welcoming daughter Everly to the family a few years ago, Dewan-Tatum has figured out how to jump-start her day with a green smoothie.
Jenna’s smoothie concoction is homemade, filled with spinach, kale, lemon, apple, banana, and pear. Made with black sesame seeds and a dash of cod liver oil, the smoothie gets credit for the actress’ glowing skin and hair.
For lunch, Dewan-Tatum allows herself to be tempted by tabouli, which she named as a favorite because of her heritage.
“I’m part Lebanese—my dad’s family—so I grew up with tabouli. It’s my favorite.”
The chopped salad mixture contains parsley, mint, bulgur, tomato, and scallions, along with olive oil and lemon juice. This refreshing, filling meal provides Jenna with non-stop energy until dinner.
The actress’s final meal of the day features a brown rice bowl. Dewan-Tatum makes it protein-rich with black beans, then brings on the vitamins and minerals, along with fiber, by adding vegetables such as purple potatoes, butternut squash, and asparagus. Jenna mixes the rice and bean combination with a tahini sauce or olive oil.
