The Funniest Man On Earth Is Jim Carrey, Says Judd Apatow

Jim Carrey is the funniest man on earth. Well, at least that’s what Judd Apatow thinks.

Apatow, who has been behind comedy classics like 40 Year Old Virgin, Freaks And Geeks, and Knocked Up, used to open for Carrey while he was doing stand up in the late 80s. The famous director said that Carrey’s uproarious set was one of the reasons that he quit doing stand up.

Apatow wrote in Vanity Fair:

“When I was a stand up comedian in the late 80s, I used to open for Jim Carrey on the road. I would do my lame act and then he would come on and do the most energetic, inventive, uproarious set I had ever witnessed. I retired from performing as a result. He was and is the funniest man on earth. This is something we can all agree on. We can debate number two forever but Jim will always be the king.”

Not everyone will agree that Jim Carrey is the “funniest man on earth” but you can’t just ignore Apatow’s opinion. After all, Apatow has worked with several A-list comedians like Adam Sandler, Aziz Ansari, Seth Rogan, Will Ferrell and Albert Brooks.

Apatow also wrote the screenplay for Fun With Dick And Jane which starred Jim Carrey.

If not Jim Carrey, who do you think is the funniest man (or woman) on earth?
