Shared World Shooter ‘Anthem’ Being Written By ‘Mass Effect 2’ Lead Writer

In BioWare’s upcoming sci-fi co-op title Anthem, players will find themselves piloting a number of exosuits called Javelins. The shared world shooter lets parties of up to four Freelancers explore undiscovered lands outside the safety of the established fort. For any given adventure, players can choose the Javelin they want to use with a stable of options. Each one can be outfitted and customized with gear, too.

During Microsoft’s conference at E3 2017, Anthem was introduced with a gameplay reveal trailer. In the video, two players join together to explore the surrounding landscape after speaking with an NPC. In their Javelins, players have access to a number of movement and combat powers. These exosuits allow players to fly, jump, and traverse different types of terrain with ease. They also provide players with powerful abilities like mortars and volleys.

Little is known about Anthem other than what is shown in the gameplay trailer below. New details about the shooter are emerging, though. According to Game Informer, the lead writer of Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 is working on BioWare’s Anthem. Players will fight to keep humanity intact as they face creatures, marauders, and other forces working against them all while picking up new loot.

The world of Anthem appears to be rather savage outside the walls of the fort. In addition to the threats that beasts and foes may pose, the world itself can also be hostile. Dynamic Shaper Storms will occur offering a different challenge to players according to the game’s official website. As a BioWare title, choice is somewhat emphasized there as well. It is said that, “Your choices will irrevocably change you,” which will ultimately impact the world in some capacity.

Anthem is BioWare’s first new IP in some years, diverging from the Dragon Age, Mass Effect, and Star Wars: Old Repblic series. As the Inquisitr reported, the co-op multiplayer mode for Mass Effect: Andromeda is still being updated and expanded with free, often weekly, content updates. New APEX agents, equipment, and limited-time maps are a staple of the optional co-op mode.

As for the new co-op RPG’s release date, players will have to wait until 2018 to pilot their Javelins. Anthem is expected to release in the fall of next year.
