Melissa Reeves Talks About Turning 50, Balancing City And Country Life, And Wanting Grandbabies

Melissa Reeves recently turned 50, yet she looks much younger. In the latest issue of Soap Opera Digest, the Days of Our Lives actress talked about growing older. She also discussed her marriage to Scott Reeves, downsizing after the children moved out, balancing city and country life, and her desire to have grandchildren.

Aging can be difficult for any woman, but it is especially hard on those who work in the entertainment business. However, Melissa seems to be taking it well. In fact, during her interview with the magazine, Reeves talked about how her mind doesn’t always match her chronological age.

“I wasn’t sad. I was excited. I was like, ‘Wow. 50. That’s awesome. That’s half of 100! I always remember my mother-in-law saying, ‘Honey, your age is this number, but in your brain, you feel the same way you did when you were 20.’ And I totally get that now. Sometimes I go, ‘Oh, wait a minute. I’m 50. I cannot wear that.’ But in your head, you still feel very young.”

As for her personal life, Reeves brought two children into the world: Emily, 25, and Larry, 19. While her daughter is dating, Larry is getting married in December. With the children out of the house, Melissa is already thinking about grandchildren. The actress told the engaged couple to start having kids right away. She explained that there is never going to be the right job or enough money. Reeves assured them that there is no reason to wait and not to worry, that everything would work out. She even promised that they would be the best grandparents and would babysit.

In the entertainment business, it is rare to have a successful marriage. However, Scott and Melissa tied the knot 27 years ago and are still going strong. The DOOL actress feels grateful and thinks they have a better marriage now than when they first wed. She feels especially blessed considering Scott had a health scare last March. One morning, he said he didn’t feel right and ended up going to the emergency room.

“They went up his wrist into his heart and found nothing. They said, ‘We don’t even know why this happened. Your vitals are perfect, your super-healthy except for this crazy enzyme that triggered something to your heart, but we can’t even tell you what it is.’ And now, he’s doing amazing.”

What many fans don’t know is that the Reeves’ split their time between California and Tennessee. Since the children have moved out, the couple downsized and are building a house out in the country. While some people would get tired of going back and forth between states, Melissa is loving it. She has always enjoyed traveling and says working in the city and living in the country allows her to have the best of both worlds.

However, the goal of living on a Tennessee farm isn’t just to enjoy the rural life. Melissa and her husband are naming their new home Revival Farm. They also plan on starting their own company, Revival Roasting Company. She didn’t go into too much detail, but they will sell products and apparel that will revolve around everything they love about living out in the country.

As for Reeves’ role as Jennifer Horton on Days of Our Lives, she had a pretty shocking storyline in 2016. Jennifer became addicted to prescription pain medication, which showed the character in a completely different light. The actress, who started on the soap opera when she was just 18-years-old, decided not to submit herself to the Daytime Emmys.

“I just get really nervous, the whole idea of picking a show and judging what’s good and what’s not good. If the audience likes it, I’m golden. That’s all that matters. It’s a wonderful night, and it’s fun, but nobody likes to be judged by their peers.”
