Selena Quintanilla Fans Are Outraged Over Leaked Trailer Of New TV Show That Contains Graphic Content

A trailer video has been leaked of Telemundo’s El Secreto de Selena, a TV version of journalist Maria Celeste Arrara’s book on the late Mexican-American singer. According to People, Selena’s fans were shocked by the graphic content.

The video begins with Selena’s murder. An actress who portrayed Quintanilla was seen leaving the motel room after being shot in the back covered in blood. As she walked, she left a blood trail behind her. Selena’s murderer, Yolanda Saldivar, will be part of the show.

The shocking trailer featured the heartbreaking scene from the 1997 movie Selena when Quintanilla dropped her ring as the paramedics put her in the ambulance, which left a pool of blood in her hand.

Just a few months ago, Arraras announced that her book would be adapted into a mini-series on the Spanish network Telemundo. Selena’s fans and family were against this happening and tried to stop it. They launched petitions and contacted the network about the series.

Selena’s sister, Suzette, spoke out about the mini-series, stating that Arraras’ book is nothing but lies. Suzette went on to say that Arraras’ book was based on interviews with Selena’s convicted murderer, not on facts.

“You, Maria Celeste, are full of crap. Your book is based on a whole bunch of lies. You know where those lies came from? Your source is a person who killed, cold-heartedly murdered my sister, shot her in the back and left her to die. It makes my stomach sick. What kind of world do we live in?”

This isn’t the first time that Selena’s family has tried to stop a series from airing on television. Last year, Chris Perez, Selena’s husband, sought to adapt his book, To Selena, With Love, to television. Selena’s father, Abraham Quintanilla Jr., called the book (and the television series) unauthorized. He added that any TV show, movie, or mini-series is prohibited without the family’s consent, Rolling Stone reported.

According to the lawsuit filed against Perez, Chris signed an agreement to not profit from Selena’s name or life in exchange for 25 percent of the proceeds received from Selena’s music and projects.

Perez decided to not follow through with the mini-series, and Selena’s family dropped the lawsuit against him.

Maria Arrara defended her book (and the mini-series), stating that it was not only based on Yolanda Saldivar’s interview but on hundreds of hours of research as well. She added that she wrote the book as a tribute to Selena’s memory.
