‘Dragon Ball FighterZ’ Announced, Closed Beta Coming End Of Summer


A new Dragon Ball game has been announced by Bandai Namco Entertainment together with a trailer. Dragon Ball FighterZ is based on the original anime, so expect to see some familiar faces from your childhood. The graphics should also remind you of the old times.

For the game, the developer Arc System Works of Guilty Gear make use of a 2D style drawing with cel-shaded graphics, reported VG247, and 3D characters. The final product is reminiscent of the style of the original Dragon Ball Z, which pleased many fans.

Bandai Namco seems confident of the capabilities of Arc System, according to the statement of VP of marketing Eric Hartness from IGN.

“Arc System Works brings a pedigree and record of quality that fighting game fans can trust; with awesome visuals players might mistake as actual 2D animation from the famed Dragon Ball series.”

Dragon Ball FighterZ Gameplay

This Dragon Ball title will feature a three-versus-three battle system that allows players to switch between characters. As it is a real DBZ game, Saiyans in the game should be able to transform into Super Saiyans and use more powerful techniques.

Bandai is yet to reveal more details about Dragon Ball FighterZ, but as of now, it is expected to be widely different from the popular Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2. The franchise is also a fighter game with an open world. It received mostly positive reviews from new gamers and from fans of the first title.

With an extensive roster of characters from Dragon Ball Super, the anime that Xenoverse 2 is based on, and a wide array of forms and techniques, players are continuing to enjoy the game even after the last DLC has been released.

Dragon Ball FighterZ Characters

The characters seen in the trailer are Goku, Frieza, Vegeta, Majin Buu, and Cell in that order. Gohan also appeared as a child at some point. As mentioned above, the game is based on the anime Dragon Ball Z, so you can expect to be able to play the other fighter characters in the anime.

It looks like Dragon Ball FighterZ will also borrow some elements from the Dragon Ball Super anime. In the trailer below, you can see Frieza transform into his golden form, which he used in the anime. However, the form did not make its first appearance in the anime. The movie Resurrection of F suggesting that the game will not go beyond the Z series.

Dragon Ball FighterZ Release Date

Dragon Ball FighterZ is currently targeting an early 2018 launch date. Players who would like to play it earlier can participate in the closed beta happening at the end of summer. Specific details have not been announced yet, so stay tuned for any update regarding the beta.

Dragon Ball FighterZ is coming to Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. By extension, it will be coming to the Xbox One X and the PS4 Pro as well. Microsoft announced that the graphics will be enhanced on its newest console, so the same can be expected on Sony’s platform.

E3 2017

E3 2017 has not yet officially started, yet there are already lots of games that have been announced. Dragon Ball FighterZ is not the only exciting game that was revealed. In Microsoft’s E3 conference alone, Assassin’s Creed Origins and Life is Strange: Before the Storm hyped up the fans and that is on top of the Xbox One X reveal, reported the Inquisitr. EA’s presentation also saw great announcements such as the new Star Wars: Battlefront II and some new content for Battlefield 1.
