‘Wonder Woman’ Director Patty Jenkins Wants To Direct ‘Superman,’ Should She Helm ‘Man of Steel 2’?

Wonder Woman’s success is a pleasant surprise considering that the DC films before it had a hard time with the critics. Featuring Gal Gadot as the titular character and Patty Jenkins as the director, the movie is a blockbuster hit and is continuing to earn millions worldwide. A sequel is justified, though it has been revealed to be in the pipelines even before the movie premiered. Still, another Gadot and Jenkins film is set to get the hype train going.

Patty Jenkins Loves Superman

However, Patty Jenkins is not yet officially confirmed for Wonder Woman 2. Gal Gadot, of course, should already be in. Yet, the director that made the huge success possible has not yet signed on. She already has her ideas, but she is still not signed on for the sequel. Is she looking at another DC movie?

In a Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything) session, Jenkins urged the forum users to ask her questions. Among the flood of queries, one user asked what DC movie she would like to helm if she were given the chance. And the answer? Superman.

“It’s no secret that I love Superman but right now I’m just happy doing Wonder Woman.”

The thread contributors implored her to do so as Man of Steel 2 is being planned. Warner Bros. still hasn’t tapped in a director for the movie, as far as we know, so her interest in it should at least get the studio to consider. After all, she brought DC back to a positive light, which the superhero movies missed to enjoy since The Dark Knight.

Should She Helm Man Of Steel 2?

It will be interesting to see how Jenkins envisions the superhero and how her influence extends to Lois Lane, who was a rather cliché character in Batman v Superman. Her skills should already be apparent with Wonder Woman and Monster, and the fans believe that she can use them for the other female (and male) characters in the DCEU as well.

Moreover, Patty already has the passion for the character. Richard Donner’s Superman influenced Wonder Woman, and according to ScreenRant, she sees the Amazonian warrior’s character as a “parallel of Superman.” This only suggests that she already has her own idea of Clark Kent, one that may be different from Zack Snyder’s.

Nevertheless, Warner Bros. is still waiting to see how Justice League will fare, on which the future of the DCEU depends. Until its release, talks regarding Man of Steel 2 and Wonder Woman 2 are on hold, so Patty Jenkins is likely on standby as well. If the upcoming Zack Snyder film turns out to be a flop, should Warner Bros. hand over the reins of the sequel to Jenkins as well?

Patty Jenkins Looking Forward To Marvel Movies

It seems the director has an interest in superheroes in general. In the same AMA session on Reddit, a user asked her what movies she wants to see this year and Jenkins replied three superhero movies out of five.

The first on her list is Baby Driver, and the last is Ava DuVernay’s A Wrinkle in Time. The other one is Justice League, which is predictable since Gal Gadot is in it. But frankly, we did not expect the other two. Patty Jenkins is also “very excited” for Spider-Man: Homecoming and Thor: Ragnarok. Just goes to show there’s no Marvel vs. DC, only superhero films.

Lastly, a revelation that made fans go “Patty Jenkins is all of us” is her answer to the question about her favorite meal. Apparently, a cheeseburger is her go-to comfort food – none of that fancy stuff.

To summarize, Jenkins is your average Redditor, and she should direct Man of Steel 2. Do you agree?
