Kala Brown Rescue Video: South Carolina Serial Killer Todd Kohlhepp Kidnapped Brown

The Kala Brown rescue video has been released. Alleged serial killer Todd Kohlhepp kidnapped Brown around August 31 of 2016. Brown and her boyfriend Charles Carver were responding to an advertisement to do work on a nearly 100-acre property when the nightmare began. A report by CBS News stated that Carver was killed and Brown was chained up in a storage container. The video below, posted by Good Morning America, was just released, showing the moment when Kala Brown was finally rescued from her captor.

As heard in the video below, Brown relayed a lot of information about her ordeal as soon as she came into contact with her rescuers.

“Todd Kohlhepp shot Charlie Carver three times in the chest, wrapped him in a blue tarp, put him in the bucket of the tractor, locked me down here. I’ve never seen him again. He says he’s dead and buried. He says there are several bodies dead and buried out here.”

A report on Yahoo! News stated that the officers were in that location because they had finally located Kala Brown’s cell phone and it indicated she had been in that area when she and Charlie Carver had vanished. While on the South Carolina property owned by Todd Kohlhepp, they heard Brown’s screams coming from inside a metal storage container. The video below shows what came next in the rescue attempt.

Investigators did find the body of Charlie Carver on the property, as well as the bodies of two other people. Todd Kohlhepp pleaded guilty in connection with the deaths of seven people, including four people he confessed to killing at a motorcycle shop in a South Carolina town in 2003. His guilty plea came in exchange for taking the death penalty off the table in this case. Kohlhepp is now serving seven consecutive life sentences with no chance of parole.

Kala Brown has since told her horrific story a few times, including to Dr. Phil in an exclusive appearance on his show. Brown talked with Dr. Phil about how she had cleaned houses with Todd Kohlhepp and that he had been a local real estate agent that she had known for a while. She and boyfriend Charlie Carver thought nothing of it when they agreed to go to his isolated South Carolina property to clean a garage.

Kala Brown’s exclusive interview got a lot of publicity and she discussed with Dr. Phil why she felt that she wasn’t the first woman to go through an ordeal with Todd Kohlhepp. She also told of the chilling sexual assaults by Kohlhepp that she had to survive on a daily basis. While being locked in the pitch-black, metal container for two months, Brown was chained by her hands, feet, and neck. Brown also told the story of when she heard the officers finally coming to her rescue.

“The lock kept making noise at the door. And then I heard somebody’s voice, and I couldn’t say anything. I couldn’t breathe. I panicked because he said if I ever heard someone outside and I made noise, he’d kill us both. And I didn’t know what to do. Finally, I heard people talking and I realized it was somebody there to help me and I started screaming.”

The release of Kala Brown’s rescue video came in conjunction with hundreds of pieces of evidence going public in this case. A report by Fox Carolina covered how most of the evidence was obtained under a Freedom of Information Act request. It includes videotaped confessions from Todd Kohlhepp, photo evidence, and videos of Brown’s rescue. The article also relayed the information that Kohlhepp is currently being held at Kirkland Correctional, a maximum-security prison in Columbia.
