‘Assassin’s Creed III’ DLC Glitch Wiping Save Files

Earlier this week, the first DLC for Assassin’s Creed III, called the “Hidden Secrets Pack,” was released early for those who purchased a Season Pass. Unfortunately, gamers who downloaded the DLC got a nasty surprise to go along with it.

Users have been reporting that upon downloading the Assassin’s Creed III DLC, their save data was completely wiped out, and all of their progress along with it. Fortunately, the issue appears to be rare.

Ubisoft is aware of the issue, and the developer says that it’s working as fast as possible to release a fix on all affected platforms–which, from what the forums suggest, is just about all of them.

“Just a quick heads up, we’re able to reproduce this issue at the studio and are working on a fix/workaround,” Ubisoft wrote in a forum post. “From what we can tell, this problem seems to be rare and should generally only affect a very small number of players. That said, we’re taking the speedy and complete resolution of this very seriously.”

If you still want to pick up the DLC, Ubisoft offered some advice on how to avoid experiencing the save-wiping bug.

“Do not load your saved AC3 game while the DLC is downloading in the background,” Ubisoft advises. “This appears to be the key trigger for this bug. You can do anything else you want to do, just don’t load up your saved game and play it while the DLC is downloading.”
