Ryan Edwards Went To Rehab In 2012, Claims Ex-Girlfriend Dalis Connell
Ryan Edwards has reportedly been in rehab for the past couple of weeks to address his ongoing struggles with substance abuse, and according to a new report, his current stint in treatment isn’t his first.
Although Ryan Edwards has yet to speak out about his decision to reportedly seek treatment for his alleged drug addiction, his ex-girlfriend spoke out on June 5, revealing that the Teen Mom OG star and dad to 8-year-old Bentley attempted to get help years ago.
“We admitted him to outpatient rehab in December 2012,” Dalis Connell revealed to Radar Online. “He was taking Roxycodone.”
As fans of Teen Mom OG may recall, Connell dated Ryan Edwards for two years and was seen during several episodes of the show years ago. Connell was also the one who reportedly broke the news of Ryan Edwards’ alleged struggles with drugs to his parents, Jen and Larry Edwards.
Unfortunately, Ryan Edwards’ parents weren’t convinced that her son’s alleged problems were serious.
“His mom was 100 percent in denial,” Dalis Connell recalled. “His dad was the one that pulled the secret out of me. That’s why he went to rehab. His dad had been fed up. I drove there that night and we had an intervention.”
Connell’s comments follow those of Maci Bookout, which were quite similar. As fans of Teen Mom OG may recall, Bookout said that the people around Ryan Edwards may prohibit Edwards from seeking treatment due to their own struggles to come to terms with the situation.
During recent episodes of Teen Mom OG, Larry has been less tolerant of Ryan Edwards’ behavior. During Season 6A, he kicked him out of his and Jen’s home in Tennessee as drug rumors swirled.
Speaking of Ryan Edwards’ first reported stint in rehab, Dalis Connell claimed the reality star was unsuccessful with his efforts to get sober and that his treatment plan was short-lived. In fact, according to Connell, Ryan Edwards lasted just one week in the outpatient program.
“[Ryan Edwards] relapsed,” Connell said. “He wasn’t interested in rehab. We had to drag him there the first time. He never said he wanted to get better, he just wanted the withdrawals to stop.”
Ryan Edwards split from Dalis Connell in 2012, and one year later, Connell revealed their breakup was the result of Edwards’ alleged cheating. In the years since, Edwards has dated numerous women and recently married Mackenzie Standifer, who he began dating last year.
As In Touch Weekly revealed over the weekend, Ryan Edwards secretly wed Mackenzie Standifer in Tennessee before entering rehab.
During last week’s episode of Teen Mom OG, which aired prior to Ryan Edwards’ rehab news being shared, Maci Bookout was seen opening up about her former boyfriend’s struggles to her husband, Taylor McKinney.
“I’m going to be like, you have to go to rehab,” Bookout said of her plans to confront Ryan Edwards about his struggles. “Right now it’s about saving his life. Most nights I’m crying in our bed talking to you about whether or not today is the day he’s going to die.”
During the episode, Bookout opened up to her co-stars, Catelynn Lowell and Amber Portwood, who both have knowledge about the topic of addiction. After their conversation concluded, Bookout told her husband that their interaction was just what she needed to hear amid her ex-boyfriend’s struggles.
