Dream Matchup Of Brock Lesnar Versus Samoa Joe At WWE Great Balls Of Fire Set — Should be Worth The Hype

Wrestling fans have waited a long time for Brock Lesnar and Samoa Joe to battle in a WWE ring, or someplace else. Brock Lesnar versus Samoa Joe is set to happen in less than five weeks at WWE’s Great Balls of Fire. After being talked about by the fans for years, will one of the dream wrestling matches of Brock Lesnar and Samoa Joe be worth the hype?

Samoa Joe had to outlast four other WWE superstars (courtesy of Cleveland.com) in WWE Extreme Rules for a showdown with Brock Lesnar can take place. As anticipated, the fatal five-way main event had some great moments, many of them featuring Samoa Joe.

One of those moments included a temporary alliance between Samoa Joe and Bray Wyatt. Their pairing is one the WWE Universe should pay some attention to as a future feud down the road. Samoa Joe versus Bray Wyatt, with a title on the line, is quietly a must-see event.

Despite the two working together for much of the main event, Samoa Joe was able to overcome an onslaught by Wyatt and one of the prohibitive favorites in the match, Roman Reigns. By holding his own and not just surviving, Samoa Joe emerged as a legitimate threat to Brock Lesnar’s WWE Universal title run.

Extreme Rules sold Samoa Joe as strong opposition for Brock Lesnar. Samoa Joe only had one true moment of weakness during the night, which was when he and Finn Balor were wiped out by Roman Reigns. However, for much of the night, Samoa Joe looked like a dominant superstar.

The main event for WWE Great Balls of Fire with Brock Lesnar and Samoa Joe can be billed as one dominant superstar versus another. Brock Lesnar against Samoa Joe should live up to all of the hype that it is about to receive. And for a good reason.

Unlike most WWE superstars, Samoa Joe has never been bullied, so it is unlikely that Brock Lesnar will do it. In fact, it has been quite the opposite. He comes to the ring with a purpose, a sense of confidence, and brings more skill than it appears he has. Samoa Joe can simply be called wrestling’s mercenary. Samoa Joe’s persona, his attitude is and has always been that of someone who does not care who his opponent is. He will dominate them. Is it safe to say Brock Lesnar is Samoa Joe’s stiffest test to date?

Lesnar has been just as dominant, if not more than Samoa Joe, with the exception of his two unthinkably easy defeats at the hands of Goldberg. Lesnar has a combination of size and quickness to him that few can match. That is until this dream bout with Samoa Joe was formed.

It was once feared that Brock Lesnar versus Samoa Joe was never going to happen. For a long time, both superstars were employing their talents somewhere else.

After a run with the UFC, where he was the heavyweight champion Lesnar returned to the WWE. While Lesnar was prize-fighting in the octagon, Samoa Joe was dominating wrestlers in TNA Impact Wrestling. By the time both superstars were with the WWE, Brock Lesnar was used only on special events and Samoa Joe was with NXT.

Even leading up the the much-hyped Extreme Rules pay-per-view it was thought that Braun Strowman would face Brock Lesnar (courtesy of Bleacher Report). That idea was scrapped after Strowman injured his elbow (courtesy of The Sun) during a match with Roman Reigns at WWE Payback.

The injury to Strowman eliminated the idea of big dream match, forcing the WWE to settle for another dream pairing. Brock Lesnar versus Samoa Joe is one that wrestling fans have been foaming at the mouth about for years.

Samoa Joe’s mobility is one of the reasons why this match will be a huge hit.

For a larger man, Samoa Joe can move. He is deceptively quick and agile for a wrestler who never fit the general depiction of most WWE superstars. Because he can move around the ring with the best of them, do not expect a methodical match when he faces Brock Lesnar.

Most of the best matches the WWE has put on in the past five years had three things in common — movement, technical maneuvers and brutality. Because Samoa Joe and Brock Lesnar has speed, there will be no problems in the first department.

What also cannot go ignored is Samoa Joe’s array of wrestling moves. Although we hardly see them, Brock Lesnar has a ton of moves in his cachet as well. Lesnar has a Greco-Roman wrestling background. Paired up with Samoa Joe’s unique submission ability, fans could be treated to one of the most technical matches they have seen in years. Brock Lesnar versus Samoa Joe could rival John Cena versus Kevin Owens.

Both Brock Lesnar and Samoa Joe are powerful, and they have a killer instinct, so the brutality will be there. Whether or not Lesnar and Samoa Joe keep the match inside the ring will determine how brutal the match can become. Again, Brock Lesnar and Samoa Joe are mean superstars, with great technical ability. Fans would be in awe if the match lasted 25 minutes and both Lesnar and Samoa Joe stayed in the ring for the bulk of it.

The build-up to Brock Lesnar versus Samoa Joe should be spectacular. Paul Heyman inserted as Lesnar’s spokesman will sell this dream match. Do not be surprised if Samoa Joe gets a vocal assist from Kurt Angle, or someone else, although his first promo regarding the showdown was something of legend. There is no way the WWE can ruin the match between Brock Lesnar and Samoa Joe, or can they?
