‘Outlander’ Season 3: Sam Heughan And Caitriona Balfe Drop Plot Hints In Cute Video

Warning: This article may contain Outlander Season 3 spoilers.

The premiere of Outlander Season 3 is just three months away now, and in celebration of World Outlander Day, series leads Sam Heughan (Jamie Fraser) and Caitriona Balfe (Claire Randall Fraser) filmed an adorable Starz promo that gives fans three things to look forward to during the new season.

For those of you who don’t know, World Outlander Day marks the day — June 1, 1991 — when Diana Gabaldon published the first novel in her Outlander books series, without which there would be no Outlander TV series.

In the segment, Heughan and Balfe are dressed in their 18th century costumes and are briefly joined by three of their Outlander Season 3 co-stars — Cesar Domboy (adult Fergus), Lauren Lyle (Marsali) and John Bell (Young Ian Murray) — before dropping some hints about upcoming storylines.

“We’re very excited to let you know we only have three weeks left of filming, it’s three months until the premiere and because of that, we’re going to give you three things to look forward to,” the adorable pair say to the camera.

Then Balfe lays down the first hint, saying, “Well, I’m going to say you can look forward to some soup.”

Heughan follows up by yelling, “Print Shop!”

Finally, Balfe teases, “Lovely bunches of coconuts.”

So what do those hints mean?

Turtle Soup

Well, Balfe’s soup hint likely has to do with the Turtle Soup scene from Voyager, Gabaldon’s third Outlander book. In the segment, Jamie cares for Claire when she wakes up with a fever from an infection. He feeds her alcohol-laced turtle soup, which makes her drunk. Claire then insists that Jamie have sex with her, but he is reluctant because she is somewhat incapacitated.

As the Inquisitr previously reported, Balfe and Heughan had a playful exchange on Twitter that indicated Balfe suffered a minor injury while filming the scene for Outlander Season 3.

The Print Shop Reunion

The Print Shop hint, of course, refers to the location Jamie and Claire finally reunite after 20 years apart. At the end of Outlander Season 2, Jamie sent a pregnant Claire back through the stones to the 20th century, as he went off to fight in the doomed Battle of Culloden. Season 3 will begin with Jamie and Claire attempting to create lives without each other in their respective centuries before finally getting back together later in the season.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Balfe assured Outlander fans that the Print Shop reunion would be worth the wait and that Season 3 would feature more sexual intimacy between the time-crossed lovers than in Season 2.

“I think it’s really special,” she said. “Maybe they’ll have to wait a little bit, but I don’t think it’s going to be as scarce as last season, shall we say?”

She also promised Vulture that the sex would still be hot even though Jamie and Claire will have aged 20 years.

“In terms of the sex, I think old people have good sex too, last I heard!”

Bunches of Coconuts

The coconuts refer to Jamaica, where the last portion of Outlander Season 3 takes place. After their reunion, Jamie and Claire will be on the run and hide out in Jamaica before eventually ending up in the American Colonies — setting up Outlander Season 4, which has already been ordered by Starz!

In other Outlander news, Diana Gabaldon also got into the spoiler game last week by telling Radio Times that a major plot mystery will be solved in Outlander Season 3.

“There has always been the question in the books as to whether Frank was or was not unfaithful to Claire during their marriage and I’ve always left it ambiguous,” Gabaldon said. “People make up their own minds, generally on the basis of whether they like Frank or not.”

Apparently, Outlander Season 3 will settle the matter once and for all.

And what does Gabaldon think of the decision the Outlander writing staff made about Frank?

“I think the TV show treats him very fairly,” she said.

Outlander Season 3 returns to Starz in September.
