Roman Reigns Remaining Out Of World Title Picture While Others Get Opportunity At The Top

Roman Reigns has been the top dog in the WWE since he won the Royal Rumble back in 2014. However, at that same time, the WWE Universe turned on Roman Reigns because they were cheering on underdog hero Daniel Bryan in that year’s event. Despite that, Roman Reigns has headlined the last three WrestleMania events and will headline a fourth in 2018.

However, until WrestleMania 34 rolls around, Bleacher Report indicates that the WWE will keep Roman Reigns out of the WWE Universal Championship title picture until then. Instead, names like Samoa Joe, Finn Balor, Seth Rollins, and Braun Strowman will get title shots over Roman Reigns during that time.

Yes, Roman Reigns is involved in the Extreme Rules five-wrestler match this weekend with the winner getting a Universal Championship title shot at Brock Lesnar in July, but he has the second lowest odds of winning with only Bray Wyatt holding worse odds to win.

That makes sense because Paul Heyman has already created the story of Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns and the only place worthy of that story is WrestleMania 34. The Undertaker was undefeated at WrestleMania for years before Brock Lesnar beat him. Then, last year, Roman Reigns beat The Undertaker in what is likely the Dead Man’s final WWE match of his career.

With Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar as the only two men to ever beat The Undertaker at a WrestleMania event, it is only natural to save their match until WrestleMania 34. To have the two men wrestle before that would really blow a perfect chance to main event the biggest show of the year in 2018.

It is interesting to think of that match since Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar already wrestled at WrestleMania 31, the first of three headlining matches for Roman Reigns at the big event. That match ended when Seth Rollins cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase and pinned Roman Reigns, taking Brock Lesnar out of the equation.

The next two years, Roman Reigns won the WWE world title from Triple H at WrestleMania 32 and then retired The Undertaker at WrestlteMania 33 in a match that resulted in the fans booing Roman Reigns out of the building the next night on Monday Night Raw.

So, what is next for Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar?

The rumors right now indicate that Roman Reigns will feud with former Shield partner Seth Rollins through the summer, possibly with a huge match between the two at SummerSlam. That might also somehow bring Dean Ambrose into the feud and the three men could keep fighting through the year.

As for Brock Lesnar, he will face the winner of the Extreme Rules match in July at Great Balls of Fire. After that, it is heavily rumored that Braun Strowman will return and insert himself into a Universal Championship feud with Braun Strowman vs. Brock Lesnar coming at SummerSlam in August.

Finn Balor is also rumored to be getting a Universal Championship title match and that could come at Survivor Series or the Royal Rumble. Seth Rollins is also supposed to get a title match against Brock Lesnar at an upcoming pay-per-view, which could maybe tie into the feud with Roman Reigns.

Fans of Roman Reigns shouldn’t worry too much. When CM Punk was dominating as the WWE world champion for over a year, John Cena was still a huge part of the WWE storylines. Even without being a challenger right now for Brock Lesnar, Roman Reigns will still be one of the main focuses on Monday Night Raw.

It might even be better when it comes to advancing the Roman Reigns storyline since Brock Lesnar is rarely ever on Monday Night Raw and keeping Roman in other feuds will allow him more to do on television as the WWE tries to raise their struggling ratings.
