The Real Reason Blake Shelton Reportedly Refused To Propose To Gwen Stefani On ‘The Voice’
Producers of The Voice reportedly hoped Blake Shelton would propose to Gwen Stefani during Season 12. The season finale, however, has come and gone, and Shelton walked away without popping the big question. Why did the country crooner refuse to propose in front of the cameras?
Life & Style reports that Shelton didn’t want an engagement because his romance with Stefani is actually on the verge of ending. The couple has been dating for almost two years, but they are reportedly thinking about parting ways. While they flirted a lot this past season, sources claim that things are different behind closed doors and Stefani isn’t happy with the relationship.
“Off-set, [Gwen’s] miserable,” an insider revealed. “Gwen and Blake began to argue more. Then she started to realize they’re just too different to spend the rest of their lives together.”
According to Celeb Dirty Laundry, Stefani’s ex-husband, Gavin Rossdale, is worried about how the breakup might affect their three sons — Kingston, Zuma, and Apollo. After all, Shelton developed a strong bond with the boys over the past year and has become a significant figure in their lives. If Stefani and Shelton split, it would be the second major breakup she’s experienced in less than two years.
“Gavin is a very concerned parent and wants to be sure Gwen and Blake aren’t arguing in front of [their three] boys. And he has concerns over how the boys would handle a breakup… [Gwen] wants the world to think everything is perfect with Blake. But that’s just not the case anymore,” an insider explained.
Speaking of breakups, it is possible that Stefani doesn’t want to rush into another marriage. The pop star was shaken up after divorcing Rossdale and even admitted that it was one of the worst experiences of her life. Is this why she is waiting to take her relationship with Blake Shelton to the next level?
“It’s the worst thing that can happen to me besides death,” she admitted about the split. “My whole life all I wanted to do was be a mother and a wife, and I had the dream of having this family because that’s what I had. I have parents who’ve been married since high school, who are in love, and they’re still in love… I had a perfect example, so it’s super tragic for me. My dreams are shattered and I feel so embarrassed about what happened.”
Shelton has also gone through his share of recent breakups. Months before dating the No Doubt alum, Shelton divorced Miranda Lambert. He’s been married twice, which might be one reason behind his hesitancy to tie the knot with Stefani. Whatever the truth, it’s clear that Shelton and Stefani are waiting for the right time to get hitched and aren’t worried about taking things too slowly.
Shelton and Stefani have not commented on their future together. By all outside appearances, their romance is still going strong. In fact, the two continue to share photos of each other on social media and weren’t shy about flirting throughout Season 12 of The Voice. Of course, there are a few theories as to why Shelton and Stefani are so open about their relationship in the media.
E! News reports that Shelton and Stefani might be using their romance to launch a new reality show about their lives. These rumors haven’t been confirmed, but it is suspicious that the couple is willing to keep their relationship in the limelight without any major benefit. Could they be generating publicity for a new show? Only time will tell, but it would certainly attract a lot of viewers if The Voice stars started their own series.
