Jonas Brothers Dad, Kevin, Is Battling Colon Cancer

Kevin, Nick, and Joe Jonas, along with their younger brother, Frankie, and their mother, Denise, have been supporting Kevin Jonas Sr., who is battling colon cancer. According to NBC News Charlotte, Jonas Sr. was diagnosed with colon cancer back in March at the age of 55. The diagnosis led to his kids clearing their schedules and flying to North Carolina (where their parents live) to be with him (and to be together as a family) before, during, and after his surgery.

“They were shaken,” Jonas Sr. told NBC News Charlotte.

“Frankie came home from school, Nick came from L.A., Joe flew directly from Japan. They canceled their schedules, moved important things,” he continued. “They stayed with us, last meal before surgery. They walked me into Sloan Kettering, which created a little bit of a stir.”

Although this is a personal health struggle that can often stir up a range of emotions, Jonas Sr. said that he wanted to share his story in hopes of helping others, perhaps inspiring them to get colonoscopies when they are at the recommended age.

“There’s also a feeling of responsibility to others. I waited two years past that 50-year mark,” he said.

About a year ago, Jonas Sr. opened Nellie’s Southern Kitchen, a restaurant in North Carolina.

“Nellie’s Southern Kitchen is located on Main Street right across from City Hall with a menu just like Nellie herself: warm and inviting. Guests will see a portrait of Kevin Jonas’ grandmother Nellie in the main dining area, with references to her life inside. For example, spoons hang from her dress, an instrument she was happy to play with friends and family. Kevin Jonas [Sr.] credits his grandmother with giving the family the foundation to follow their dreams, including his famous sons.”

In the interview, Kevin Jonas Sr. and his wife, Denise, talked about raising their sons and how three of their boys changed their lives forever. They talked about having it tough financially and how they “barely had enough money” to put food on the table. It was undeniably a struggle for the family, who said they bet everything on their sons.

“(We) said this is all we have and we’ll bet it on you and they said bet on us,” Kevin Jonas Sr. recalled.

It didn’t take long for the Jonas Brothers to make a name for themselves, something that their dad says really happened “overnight.”

“They really did have a meteoric rise. It was quick and overnight,” he said.

He and his wife were determined to keep their boys in line, and they did so despite their quick rise to fame. However, the boys are all grown now — and their parents are very proud of all of them.

“We watched them grow up and I think it’s like all parents—you see your kids grow up and if they become good people you’re proud,” their dad said, according to People Magazine.

It is unclear if Kevin Jonas Sr.’s cancer will go into remission, but that is certainly the hope. Although he had surgery, it will still take some time and likely some additional treatment. Thousands of Jonas fans have been sending their love and support to the family, all of them hoping that Kevin Jonas Sr. will soon be able to say that he is “cancer free.”
