‘Teen Mom OG’ Star Ryan Edwards Family Is Reportedly ‘In Denial’ Over His Drug Abuse Issues
Ryan Edwards might be headed to rehab. On a recent episode of Teen Mom OG, Edwards’ ex, Maci Bookout, finally confirmed that Edwards has a drug problem and needs serious help. But is his family in denial?
According to Radar Online, Bookout discovered some information about Edwards on Teen Mom OG. Bookout didn’t say whether Edwards was dealing with drugs, but Amber Portwood and Catelynn Lowell strongly hinted that was the case.
“I watch it. I see it. I know it. Where he’s at right now when I see him, I know where he’s at,” Portwood, who has dealt with drug issues before, shared.
Lowell then asked Bookout if Edwards was willing to get help for his problem. Although Bookout claims Edwards is willing to go to rehab, his family is in complete denial. Are they preventing Edwards from getting the help he needs?
“He would do it. It’s everyone else around him that’s afraid to admit it,” Bookout told her friends. “He’s got me. Everyone else around him is too afraid of what it will look like more than his health. It’s all denial. The hardest thing is to see Ryan not love himself. He’s a person who deserves to love himself.”
Us Magazine reports that Bookout said she would urge Edwards to enroll in a treatment center. She later told her current husband, Taylor McKinney, that she’s afraid Edwards will die if he doesn’t get help. She also assured McKinney that she will confront Edwards about his problems soon.
This isn’t the first time Ryan Edwards has been involved in drug rumors. The Teen Mom star appeared high last season and fans were quick to pick up on his strange behavior. Edwards denied the reports at the time, though it’s clear that he’s dealing with some serious drug problems.
According to In Touch Weekly, Edwards’ physical appearance has changed over the years — and it’s likely due to his drug habit. Edwards, who shares a son with Bookout, has gained a lot of weight over the past few seasons and has even gotten a few gray hairs. For Bookout, getting Edwards help is important for him and their daughter, Bentley.
“People are gonna be like, ‘Oh he’s doing drugs.’ I did not know the severity of what is going on,” she stated. “Obviously our No. 1 priority is Bentley’s safety, but Ryan is his dad … we have to get Jen and Larry on board. The goal is to get him healthy and happy and back to normal. If I can’t do that, I at least have to try.”
One of the biggest issues is getting the support of Edwards’ family. Edwards had a huge fight with his parents last season that ended with his father, Larry, kicking him to the curb. The situation stressed out his mother, Jen, who felt caught between the two men. Fortunately, Edwards eventually apologized to his dad and they were able to make amends.
It now sounds like his family doesn’t believe he has a drug problem, which could make entering rehab an issue. Fans can only hope that Edwards’ family doesn’t get in the way of his recovery and he can get the help he desperately needs.
Edwards is currently engaged to Mackenzie Standifer, who has not commented on the recent revelations on Teen Mom OG. Edwards and Standifer are still living together and are planning on tying the knot in the near future. Filming for Teen Mom took place around six months ago, so it’s possible that Edwards is in a much better place now.
