Roman Reigns And Seth Rollins To Kick Off Summer’s Biggest Feud On ‘Monday Night Raw’

This Monday night, the WWE will take one step closer to Extreme Rules with Monday Night Raw, and one of the matches looks to be the start of what might be the biggest feud of the summer. According to WWE.com, Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins will battle in a one-on-one match as they prepare for the big five-man extreme match next Sunday that will determine the new number one contender to Brock Lesnar and his WWE Universal Championship.

That is just one of two matches on Monday Night Raw that will feature the men included in that big extreme rules match. The second match is a three-way between Finn Balor, Samoa Joe, and Bray Wyatt. That second match seems a little unfair for Finn Balor, as he faces the two true heels involved in the Extreme Rules match.

There is a good chance that Finn Balor wins the match at Extreme Rules and gets the title shot against Brock Lesnar at Great Balls of Fire in July. However, the one man that will not win that match is Roman Reigns, which is why the match with Seth Rollins is so interesting.

Something that WWE.com mentions in their Monday Night Raw preview hints that there might be more to the Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins match than meets the eye.

On just the surface, this was a match that Monday Night Raw general manager Kurt Angle made due to miscommunication between the two men when Roman Reigns hit Seth Rollins with the Superman Punch last week, causing the two men to lose to Samoa Joe and Bray Wyatt in their tag team match last week.

However, WWE.com hints at a lot more bubbling beneath the surface. The site reminds fans that Seth Rollins destroyed The Shield back in 2014 and it even links to a video that showed Seth Rollins turning on his teammates and beating down Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose with a chair.

The site then asks if Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins might finally settle their differences in the match or if their old rivalry will “reignite” just days before their Extreme Rules match. Since Roman Reigns won’t be fighting Brock Lesnar until WrestleMania 34, he will need a high impact feud as the WWE tries to revive their struggling ratings this summer.

No matter how vocal some fans are about their dislike of Roman Reigns, he still remains a huge selling point for the WWE for kids and that is where the money lies. They won’t turn him heel but if they keep him as a tweener with shades of gray, they can have Roman Reigns feud with Seth Rollins and it could possibly help elevate both men.

Add in Dean Ambrose, and the seeds are planted for an eventual reunion of The Shield down the line. That seems to be where the WWE looks like they are headed at this time.

Braun Strowman is supposed to return in July, which would give Brock Lesnar time to battle whoever wins at Extreme Rules. Originally, the two men were supposed to fight at Great Balls of Fire and SummerSlam. Whether they just go once at SummerSlam or not is something to be determined.

After that, Seth Rollins is also supposed to get a Universal Championship title shot against Brock Lesnar. If someone like Samoa Joe wins at Extreme Rules, Finn Balor is also in line for a shot as well. Then, it all leads to WrestleMania 34 and the Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns showdown.

If the Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins feud will ignite this summer, all roads could lead to WrestleMania 34 and a reunion of The Shield to finally conquer and put down The Beast.
