Selena Gomez On Dating The Weeknd, Moving Past Justin Bieber Relationship

Selena Gomez has been private about her new relationship with Canadian superstar The Weeknd. It is also clear that Selena Gomez is over Justin Bieber, who she accused of cheating on her multiple times last year.

During a radio interview this week, Selena Gomez opened up about dating The Weeknd for the first time. The couple has been spotted out together and enjoying each other’s company. According to US Magazine, Selena explains how she is in relationships in general while referring to her new boyfriend, stating the following.

“I’m the kind of girl that loves tremendously big. I just have always been that girl,” the singer, 24, told Miami’s Power 96.5 FM. “I will give my heart and my soul to the person that I love. It’s just how I operate. With that comes a lot, you know?”

She didn’t mention her boyfriend The Weeknd. However, she made it clear that she is taken. In reference to her single “Bad Liar,” she also opened up about the last lie she told during the interview. “I was planning a trip and I was saying, like, ‘I’m going to leave,’ but I was trying to get somebody really cute to tell me to stay,” she stated.

The singer also addressed rumors that she is working on some music with the “Party Monster” singer. Rumors were swirling that Selena has a new song in the works featuring The Weeknd called “In Her Element.” The 24-year old singer stated that the rumors are false; therefore, don’t expect any collaboration from the new couple anytime soon.

During her on/off relationship with Justin Bieber from 2011 to 2014, they did not collaborate on any songs so it’s possible the “Come & Get It” singer likes to keep personal and business separate.

While Selena Gomez is moving past her relationship with Justin Bieber. The “Sorry” singer has been taking jabs at The Weeknd, calling the Canadian’s singer’s music “wack” after he went public with his new relationship.

According to NME, The Weeknd fired back at Bieber in a song earlier this year called “Some Way,” which is a collaboration with Toronto artist Nav and includes the following lyrics believed to be aimed at Justin Bieber.

“I just took that chick, and I know you feelin’ some way / She just want a n***a like me, you feelin’ some way” and “Think your girl fell in love with me / She say my f**k and my tongue game a remedy.”

The Weeknd was previously in a relationship with Bella Hadid for about 18 months. They ended their romance shortly before a run-in at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in November where the “Starboy” was performing and Hadid was walking the runway.

They seemed to have ended the relationship on good terms as Bella Hadid took to Instagram to give her ex-boyfriend a shout out, calling him an incredible performer.

Two months later, The Weeknd was spotted with Selena Gomez and multiple media outlets reported that Bella Hadid unfollowed Selena Gomez. While they were photographed together multiple times in the past, it is unclear how close Selena and Bella were as friends.

Some fans suspected that The Weeknd had a crush on Selena Gomez when the “Party Monster” lyrics seemed to be aimed at her with the following.

“Angelina, lips like Angelina / Like Selena, a** shaped like Selena.”

Some also speculated that the lyrics were aimed at the late Selena Quintanilla, who was known for her beauty, as well as her talent.

Both The Weeknd and Selena Gomez prefer to keep their relationship private.
