‘iZombie’ Season 3, Episode 9, Preview: Liv Becomes A Dungeon Master With The Latest Murder Victim’s Brain

This week iZombie has taken a leaf out of Netflix’s Stranger Things, with Liv channeling a “Dungeons and Dragons” dungeon master in Episode 9 of Season 3.

SPOILER ALERT: This article discusses Season 3, Episode 9, of The CW Network’s iZombie. Please proceed with caution if you wish to avoid spoilers.

Episode 9 of iZombie Season 3 is titled “Twenty-Sided, Die.” For fans of the classic game, Dungeons and Dragons, that title will be a dead giveaway. In this episode, Liv Moore (Rose McIver) will have to eat the brain of a dead dungeon master in order to solve the murder mystery this week.

You can view the full synopsis, as listed on IMDb, for Episode 9 of iZombie Season 3 below.

“A dungeon master is killed and the probe reveals that he was up to more than playing in his mother’s basement. Meanwhile, Blaine’s (David Anders) experiment does not go as planned; and Ravi (Rahul Kohli) stumbles across some new information that could prove deadly.”

Episode 9 of iZombie Season 3 is directed by Jason Bloom and was written by Kit Boss.

The first part of the synopsis is pretty self-explanatory, revealing who this week’s murder victim in on iZombie, with just a hint of his possible sinister double life that has likely led to his death. However, the rest of the synopsis for Episode 9 of iZombie is open to interpretation.

Episode 9 of iZombie Season 3 will see Blaine performing some sort of experiment. It is unclear whether this is an actual scientific experiment in regard to something like the zombie cure that Ravi has been experimenting with in previous episodes. Alternatively, it could be an experiment on human nature. Could Blaine be trying to win back Peyton (Aly Michalka) in Episode 9 of iZombie? Or, is it something to do with his new status now he has thrown his father down a well?

The final part of the Episode 9 synopsis sees Ravi uncovering some new information. For those of you who were worried about Ravi entering the anti-zombie meeting alone in Episode 8 of iZombie can rest assured that he survives this gathering and is back in Episode 9 collecting information. It is unclear what this information is from the new synopsis. However, could it have something to do with the zombie cure he has been developing? Many fans are already speculating just how effective the cure is after the show’s creator, Rob Thomas, admitted that to have a cure that worked in iZombie would mean the show would then be redundant. It is a show about zombies, after all.

“If there is ever a cure where things go well, it seems like the show will be over. I don’t think we could cure Liv Moore until we’re ready to do our final episode.”

While the synopsis for Episode 9 of iZombie gives away some potential clues away in regard to the long story arc for Season 3, the trailer only really deals with the murder of the week. Predictably, Ravi knows exactly which game the people were playing when the victim dies and Clive becomes increasingly exasperated with Liv as she takes on the role of dungeon master. It is also revealed that Major (Robert Buckley) is a fan of Dungeons and Dragons, as the group joins together to play a game. At the end of the trailer, Liv offers the line, “So, what say you, fellowship of the dorks,” indicating that maybe the dungeon master was not the nicest person and giving a possible reason he was killed.
