‘Jessica Jones’ Season 2: When Is The Netflix Release Date?

It was a year ago that Netflix and Marvel confirmed Jessica Jones would be returning for Season 2. While this news made subscribers who enjoy Marvel Netflix Original shows happy, it’s been almost two years since Season 1 of Jessica Jones was originally released. Naturally, this has Netflix subscribers a little anxious.

Does Jessica Jones Season 2 have a release date? Do we know anything more now than we did a year ago when Season 2 was confirmed by Netflix? These are the questions subscribers desperately want answered.

Fortunately, fan site What’s On Netflix recently published a new story with an estimated release date for Season 2. While the release date of Season 2 has yet to be confirmed by the streaming giant, this Netflix fan site tends to be on the ball with their guesses and estimations.

Season 2 Netflix Release Date

For the time being, the only thing Netflix and Marvel have confirmed regarding a release date for Season 2 is that it is coming sometime during the year 2018. Unfortunately for Jessica Jones fans, 12 months is an unbearably long window of uncertainty. According to Den of Geek, they have started filming Season 2 of Jessica Jones. So, it is possible we could start seeing more information regarding the second installment in the next few months.

As those who have had a Netflix membership for a while know, the streaming giant is pretty consistent and predictable when it comes to release schedules. The fact that Netflix tends to stick to such consistent patterns when it comes to releases makes it easy for fan sites like What’s On Netflix to make pretty accurate guesses regarding when the next season might be released.

For starters, the best place for anyone trying to figure out the release date for Season 2 of Jessica Jones is to look at the release date history for other Netflix Marvel Originals. What’s On Netflix has confirmed the following to be the release date history of the four shows – including The Defenders, which has yet to be released.

  • Daredevil: Season 1 (released on April 10, 2015)
  • Jessica Jones: Season 1 (released on November 20, 2015)
  • Daredevil: Season 2 (released on March 18, 2016)
  • Luke Cage: Season 1 (released on September 30, 2016)
  • Iron Fist: Season 1 (released on March 17, 2017)
  • The Defenders: Season 1 (released on August 18th, 2017)

With the exception of Iron Fist, the other three defenders were all confirmed for another installment. Looking at this list Jessica Jones is next in line for a release, but that isn’t going to come until after The Defenders and a Punisher series – which doesn’t have a confirmed release date other than sometime towards the end of the year.

In 2015, Netflix released Season 1 of Daredevil in April, and in 2016 they released Season 2 of Daredevil in March. If they stick to this schedule, it would make sense for Jessica Jones Season 2 to be released sometime between the months of March and April 2018. Considering Den of Geek has confirmed they are currently filming Season 2, that gives more than enough time for a March/April 2018 release date. However, this information must be taken with a grain of salt as nothing has been confirmed by Netflix at this time.

Jessica Jones will appear in The Defenders

Those who don’t like knowing they are going to have to wait until sometime next year for the release of Jessica Jones Season 2 may find comfort in the fact that her character will appear in The Defenders. Jessica Jones actually has a large role in the new Marvel series – scheduled to release on Netflix on August 18 of this year – as she will appear in every episode of Season 1.
