Supernatural has a habit of creating explosive, thought-provoking, and suspenseful endings. This is exactly what happened in the Season 12 finale, titled “All Along The Watchtower.” While the fate of some characters is uncertain, fans saw the deaths of Castiel and Crowley. However, with a show like this one, death isn’t always permanent. Will these two characters return in Season 13? Misha Collins and Mark Sheppard have responded.

Spoilers are ahead. Do not continue reading unless you want to know what could happen when the television show returns to The CW network.

For years, both Castiel and Crowley have made regular appearances in Supernatural. Earlier this season, the two were actually working together to track down Lucifer. It was a mismatch made in heaven or hell, depending on if you are Team Angel or if you side with the ruler of the underworld.

During the Season 12 finale, fans were shocked when both Castiel and Crowley died. For Misha Collins’ character, Lucifer stabbed him with an angel blade. As for Crowley, he actually did something good for a change. He sacrificed himself so Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) could trap the enemy in an alternate universe.

On Instagram, Mark Sheppard revealed if Crowley would return in Supernatural Season 13. Unfortunately, it seems like the actor might not be coming back. He posted that it was time for something new and thanked the crew and storytellers for the ride. In the post, the actor was wearing a Crowley t-shirt. It featured one of his well-known quotes, which was referenced in the social media update.

“So to all my #spnfamily everywhere… my crew and my fellow storytellers… thanks for the ride. Time for something new. Even when I lose…”

As for Castiel, Misha Collins went on Twitter a few days ago to address the fate of his character. He assured fans that Castiel does have a future. Viewers were not too surprised at this. The show is famous for bringing characters back from the dead. Even the stars, Dean and Sam Winchester, have died multiple times, only to be brought back in various ways.

Even though the Season 12 finale just aired last week, fans are already looking for Supernatural Season 13 spoilers. As previously reported by the Inquisitr, Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles announced that there would be one animated episode next season. It will be a Scooby-Doo crossover. A photo teased the Scooby Snack-loving pooch would appear. However, it is not yet known if the other Scooby-Doo characters will also make it into the episode. Apparently, Sam and Dean will end up in an alternate world with the cartoon character.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly prior to the Season 12 finale, showrunner Andrew Dabb teased Season 13.

“We’re wrapping a lot of things up and certain plot lines will be ended this season — some forever and some temporarily — but also, that allows us to build up steam going into Season 13. Coming out of the finale, people will have a pretty good idea of where things are going.”

Even though many would think the writers would be out of ideas, they are determined to keep things fresh and new next season.

“There are some things that happen that impact strongly and directly on the boys, while at the same time, we are starting a new chapter in the show, [though] not in a way of erasing what’s come before. I think it’s something that will be a natural progression of what we’ve done but also cool and different and hopefully give us a lot of energy going into Season 13.”

What do you think Castiel’s future will be in Supernatural Season 13? Are you disappointed that Mark Sheppard will not be back as Crowley?
