The Bangladesh national cricket team will attempt to end their tri-nation series in Ireland on a positive note when they face New Zealand in Dublin on Wednesday in a one day international match that will live stream as the Tigers fight for their first-ever win against New Zealand in an ODI match outside of Bangladesh.
In 16 attempts in away matches, Bangladesh have never defeated the Black Caps in an ODI — right up through their first match in the current triangle series last Wednesday, when New Zealand chased down the Bangladesh total of 257 inside of 48 overs. New Zealand has already clinched victory in the three-nation series, while Bangladesh is guaranteed a second-place finish ahead of host Ireland no matter what the result of Wednesday’s ODI.
But New Zealand, with a win, would finish off an undefeated run in the series ahead of the prestigious ICC Champions Trophy — second only to the World Cup as the top international cricket competition — which opens in England next week. New Zealand have been fielding a largely second-string side in the tri-series, with many of their top players in India to compete in the recently completed Indian Premier League franchise cricket tournament. But Corey Anderson, Matt Henry, and Adam Milne all returned for New Zealand’s previous game, in which the Black Caps crushed Ireland with a 190-run triumph.
Bangladesh and New Zealand have been placed in the same group for the Champions Trophy round-robin stage, so Wednesday’s game takes on an added significance.
