Robert Pattinson Back In A Romantic Relationship With ‘The Souvenir’

Robert Pattinson will be back in a romantic avatar with The Souvenir. The Twilight actor enjoyed the announcement while grocery shopping with girlfriend FKA Twigs.

The announcement of Pattinson’s new film was announced at the recently held 2017 Cannes Film Festival. The film will also star Ariane Labed, Tom Burke and Richard Ayode. Protagonist Pictures is handling the movie’s worldwide sales. The romantic mystery, The Souvenir, will be directed by Joanna Hogg.

Hogg said in an interview that she has been working on Robert Pattinson’s starring movie over the last few years. She revealed the interesting way of juggling between fiction and reality that helped her write the film.

“This story has been in my head for a few years. After Exhibition, I talked to Martin about what I should do next. I had two ideas: one was a ghost story. The other was this one. I start from autobiography. When I investigate a story I realize what I don’t remember and the demands of fiction take over: that’s the fun part. Reality and fiction are so jumbled up. That blurring is partly what I’m exploring in this story.”

The synopsis of the story reads that it will follow a young film student in the decade spanning over 1980s, who was involved in her first serious love affair, but struggles to disentangle fact from fiction in a relationship with a deeply untrustworthy man. The film will be in two parts, with the first feature expected to start shooting this summer. The second part of The Souvenir will start shooting in summer 2018.

The female lead has not yet been cast, but the role is expected to go to a newcomer. Burke will play the “untrustworthy man” in the first film, while Pattinson will take on the lead male role of the second film. Luke Schiller will produce the film, which is being introduced in Cannes by Protagonist. The Souvenir, developed with the BFI and backed by BBC Films, will mark the first project from JWH Films, a production company recently set up by Hogg.

Martin Scorsese will executive produce the movie with his Sikelia Productions partner Emma Tillinger Koskoff. Scorsese revealed during his recent interview that The Souvenir came to him by chance.

“The film came my way by chance. I was in London shooting Hugo and someone sent me a DVD of Archipelago. I remember looking at the film on the weekend and being very surprised by it. It was a stunning experience for me. I found it moving and beautiful. I then met Joanna in London.”

Pattinson was recently seen in The Lost City of Z with Charlie Hunnam and Queen of the Desert with Nicole Kidman. He also stars in the Safdie brothers’ Good Time, which is playing at the Cannes 2017 festival. The Souvenir will be first franchise film signed by the 31-year-old actor after his blockbuster hit The Twilight Saga.

The actor’s Good Time movie’s trailer has definitely impressed critics. The movie is called a bold turning point in the career of Pattinson. Directed by Josh and Benny Safdie, the film unfolds over the course of a single night in New York City, as Pattinson plays a man desperate for cash after a botched robbery sends his brother to jail. The Good Time premieres in the United States’ cinemas on August 11, 2017. A UK release date is yet to be announced.

Apart from The Souvenir and Good Time, Robert Pattinson will also be soon seen in Damsel, an upcoming western comedy period film, directed by David Zellner. The movie follows a businessman, who travels West to join his fiancée in the mountains. The fiancee’s role will be played by Mia Wasikowska. The movie does not have a release date yet.
