Google’s Postini suffers outage, still down for some

Google’s Postini email service suffered an outage today, and at the time of writing is still down for a significant number of Postini customers.

Postini users report that they are either not receiving their e-mail or that it coming through, but seriously severely delayed.

A Google spokesman told Computerworld that the issues were affecting some, but not all Postini users: “We’re aware of an issue that’s causing a delay in mail delivery for some Postini customers in the US, and are working to fix it as quickly as possible,” wrote Kovacs. “We know how important mail is to our users, so we take issues like this very seriously, and apologize for the inconvenience.”

Founded in 1999, Postini was acquired by Google for $625 million in July 2007. The Postini system offers filtering for e-mail messages which contain malware or spam before they are delivered to the client’s mail server, archiving e-mail messages, and protecting networks from web-borne malware.
