Ruby Rose Backtracks On Katy Perry Diss: ‘Being Mean Doesn’t Suit Me’

Ruby Rose totally dissed Katy Perry earlier this week, after Katy’s new song, “Swish, Swish,” threw subliminal shots at Ruby’s BFF, Taylor Swift. Katy’s controversial lyrics were not too kind to Taylor Swift, her former friend turned foe.

“From a selfish or a sheep/ Don’t you come for me/ No, not today/ You’re calculated/ I got your number,” Katy sings. “‘Cause you’re a joker/ And I’m a courtside killer queen/ And you will kiss the ring/ You best believe.”

She continues, “So keep calm, honey, I’ma stick around/ For more than a minute, get used to it/Funny my name keeps comin’ outcho mouth/ ‘Cause I stay winning.”

Taylor Swift has received much criticism because of her calculated girl-next-door image, though many people perceive her as anything but, so it’s clear that those lyrics were aimed at her. Then, there’s the fact that “swish” sounds a lot like Swift. Ruby Rose, along with most other people, immediately picked up on the diss and took to Twitter to defend Taylor.

“Purposeful poop’ to ‘bomb a petit’ to a sloppy mess of writing over the top of Funkagenda… stop trying to make ‘Wit… I mean ‘fetch’ happen. … I just think with everything going on in the world to go from rebranding as political activist only to ditch it and go low… is… a bummer,” Ruby wrote, via Twitter.

She later added, “I’ve always stood up for the people I love and against things I think are cheap or mean spirited. That’s not new. You have to follow your heart.”

To add insult to injury, Ruby Rose also took jabs at Katy Perry’s record sales, in response to one of Katy’s fans.

“You are her fans you should buy all her songs so the songs will finally chart. If as many as tweeted me bought her last 3.. they’d be hits.”

Ruby’s comments quickly spread through the Twittersphere, prompting fans of both Katy Perry and Taylor Swift to take sides in the matter. Many of Katy’s fans were quick to point out that Taylor Swift wrote “Bad Blood,” a song believed to be a diss track about Katy Perry, and even rallied all of her friends for the music video.

In light of all that attention, the Orange Is The New Black the actress has changed her tune a little. Early on May 21, Ruby Rose tweeted out a series of tweets that shows she’s had time to reflect on her words.

“Being mean doesn’t suit me and leaves me feeling dirty. Truth is being mean leaves more leaks in your camp than the titanic and I get so triggered when I think bullies don’t get held accountable and it makes me think I should say something,” Rose, wrote on Twitter Saturday. “But it’s not my place.”

Rose added that she has “always believed strongly that Karma exists and the truth always surfaces, however, I’m not god and I can’t decide when or how that is. Clearly comes from being bullied in school & wanting to stick up for the underdogs. However, I shouldn’t stoop because then the message is mixed.”

Basically, Ruby Rose still doesn’t appreciate Katy Perry dissing her friend, Taylor, but she’s going to let Taylor fight her own battles. That’s probably a smart decision, considering that Katy Perry’s fans are just as protective of her as Taylor’s.

What do you think of Ruby Rose’s apology? Do you think she should have stayed out of the drama between Katy Perry and Taylor Swift? Or, do you think that she was right to defend her friend? You can sound off in the comment section, below.
