Prince Harry, Meghan Markle Attending Pippa Middleton Wedding Reception After Markle Skips Ceremony [UPDATE]
UPDATE: Meghan Markle did make an appearance at the evening reception held in honor of Pippa Middleton’s marriage to James Matthews on the Middleton family property in Bucklebury.
Despite reports that Meghan Markle would attend Pippa Middleton’s wedding with Prince Harry, Meghan Markle was nowhere to be seen at the church service in the village of Bucklebury this morning. In fact, at the time of the St. Mark’s service, Markle was photographed in London, having a spa day, readying herself to make her mark on Harry’s arm tonight at the wedding reception of Pippa Middleton and James Matthews at the private Middleton property in the county of Berkshire.
But though it was announced that Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, Prince George, and Princess Charlotte were all going to be at the wedding service for Pippa Middleton and James Matthews, only part of that was true, as Prince Harry was photographed at St. Mark’s church, and Prince George and Princess Charlotte were part of the wedding party, photographed in their wedding finery. Princess Charlotte was a bridesmaid, wearing an adorable dress with a dusty pink bow and a baby’s breath crown, while Prince George as page boy wore a shirt with a Peter Pan collar and khaki jodhpurs. Pippa’s sister and the mother of Princess Charlotte and Prince George wore a dress in the same dusty pink as Charlotte’s bow.
But fans looking for the little-photographed couple of Prince Harry/Meghan Markle were wondering where in the world was Meghan Markle when Prince Harry showed up in Bucklebury stag? Prince Harry’s Hollywood lady love Meghan Markle was back in London getting ready for the big party this evening. It seems that there are two camps when it comes to why Meghan Markle wasn’t at the church ceremony this morning. First, the church, St. Mark’s had limited seating, and it was fully taken up by family and close friends. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s relationship only became serious recently, and the church seating plan was in place before that.
The second school of thought, which seemed more likely was that a photo that caught Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, and Prince William and Princess Kate together would be highly prized, and so it was seen as the proper thing to do was allow Pippa Middleton to be the focus of photographers and the press on her big day. If Meghan Markle wants to fit in the Brit royal set, she wouldn’t upstage the bride on her big day.
Word is that after the morning ceremony, Prince Harry would head back to London (about 90 minutes) to pick up Meghan Markle to escort her to the evening party for Pippa Middleton and her now-husband, James Matthews. Myka Meier, of Beaumont Etiquette, says that it might not seem like a big deal, but it is huge that Meghan Markle would even attend the reception for Pippa and James.
“I would not be surprised if Prince Harry was not given a plus one, as the wedding guest list would have most likely been made in fall of last year when Prince Harry’s relationship with Meghan was not as public. I typically recommend if someone is married, engaged, considers themselves to have a serious significant other, or is traveling in for the wedding, they should receive a plus one.”

James Middleton, the brother of Pippa and Kate Middleton, brought his girlfriend, and Princess Eugenie is attending this evening with her boyfriend Jack Brooksbank. By staying away from the ceremony, Meghan Markle was said to have scored major points with everyone.
And sources are saying that ironically, staying away from the ceremony might indicate that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s relationship is even more serious than some are thinking because the opinion of the Queen and other royal family members would only be important if Prince Harry wanted to propose and maybe ask for Meghan Markle’s hand in marriage sometime soon.
Nothing gets people in the mood for romance like a nice wedding in the country, says Chris Ship, royal editor for NBC News.
“Everyone gets more romantic when they attend a wedding and I’m sure Harry and Meghan will feel it too. But remember, this relationship is not yet a year old and if Meghan is to marry into the royal family, she’ll want to be certain she’s doing the right thing. I think they will get engaged, but they might well choose to keep us — and the world — waiting a little longer.”
