Kelly Ripa Appalled By Ryan Seacrest’s Major On-Air Flub Fueling Feud Rumors

Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest’s on-air relationship just got a bit more awkward.

Seacrest was caught making a major flub with guest Jeffrey Tambor on Live with Kelly and Ryan. The former American Idol host made everything awkward when he mistook Tambor for another actor, which didn’t go over well with co-host Ripa.

According to Radar Online, Seacrest’s embarrassing moment came when he told Tambor that he’ll always be the “scary guy on the subway” in the movie Ghost. The only problem is that Tambor was never in Ghost. That part was actually played by Vincent Schiavelli, who passed away back in 2005.

“Oh, this is horrible,” Tambor told Seacrest after the flub. “You’re gonna be embarrassed. That’s not me. Wow, here we go. He’s dead. I’m still here.”

While Ripa turned white with embarrassment, Tambor teased Seacrest for the misstep. “What is wrong with you!” he joked. “I came on to sell a book, not to be insulted. I am hurt. My reps are here and we are filing an action suit. I came on in good faith.”

Variety reports that the actor went on to admit that he has been mistaken for Schiavelli in the past. He described a hilarious incident that happened when he was dining at an Italian restaurant before lashing back into Seacrest for making the same mix-up.

“Let me ask you, do you think you actually BOOKED Vincent Schiavelli?” he asked.

Tambor was on the show to promote his new book, Are You Anybody? The actor is well known for his roles in Arrested Development, The Larry Sanders Show, and Transparent.

While Ripa and Seacrest tried to take the mishap in stride, the incident has fueled even more rumors that they aren’t getting along backstage. According to Fox News, Kelly Ripa is concerned about Seacrest’s commitment to the show and is afraid that he’ll suddenly leave her like Michael Strahan did last year.

Seacrest is currently in negotiations to host ABC’s reboot of American Idol, which is expected to premiere in March of 2018. The network has not made any announcements yet, but an inside source revealed that Seacrest’s involvement in American Idol was part of the deal.

“This isn’t some spur-of-the-moment deal. It’s part of his move to ABC,” a source shared. “It’s a no-brainer. He took the job for Idol and to host Live. It’s the only way ABC could pay him enough money to come over. They’ll have to announce it before upfronts.”

In light of the rumors, a rep for Seacrest has come forward and denied the Idol deal. The rep claims that Seacrest did not sign a two-part deal with ABC and assured fans that he is fully committed to Ripa’s show.

“That’s untrue. He does not have a deal with Idol,” the rep shared. “He’s in conversations. His Live deal was made independent of any Idol discussions. His priority is Live with Kelly and Ryan and his radio show.”

Insiders also claim that Ripa is well aware of Seacrest’s negotiations with ABC. Ripa and Seacrest have known each other for over 15 years and are good friends. Despite all the feud rumors, Ripa is reportedly excited about having Seacrest on board for the foreseeable future.

As far as Seacrest is concerned, he remains one of the busiest hosts in Hollywood. In addition to co-hosting alongside Ripa, Seacrest has his own radio show and producers two reality TV shows in Los Angeles. Filming for Live takes place in New York, which means Seacrest has to fly coast-to-coast every week.

Kelly Ripa has not responded to the rumors.

New episodes of Live with Kelly and Ryan air weekdays on ABC.
