Fan Falls At ACC Title Game, Taken To Hospital With Life Threatening Injuries

A 22-year-old football fan was rushed to the hospital after falling from the stadium concourse at the ACC Title game between Florida State and Georgia Tech at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte.

According to CBS Sports, the fan was taken to the Carolinas Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

Major Eddie Levins said in an official statement:

“The Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department is investigating what is being referred to as a public accident … A 22-year old male fell from what is thought to be the 4th level of the stadium. No further details are available. The injured man has been transported to Carolinas Medical Center.”

SB Nation reports that the fan fell between 40 and 60 feet and landed on a grassy area outside the stadium. The incident occurred around 8:30 pm, which was right around kickoff time.

The identity of the fan, as well as the cause of the fall, are not known at this time.

Fox Sports reports that this is the first time that a fan has fallen from the Bank of America Stadium. This is not, however, the first time that a fan has been injured after falling during a major sporting event. There have been incidents at MetLife Stadium, Reliant Stadium, and the Georgia Dome this year.
