Jared Allen Fined $21,000 For Block On Lance Louis

Jared Allen was fined $21,000 for his blind-side block on Chicago Bears guard Lance Louis on Sunday.

According to NFL.com, the block occured shortly after an interception by Antoine Winfield. Louis was watching the ball and didn’t see Jared Allen charging him. Louis suffered a season-ending knee injury on the play and Allen was criticized for making an unnecessary hit.

Lovie Smith said this week:

“Jared Allen plays the game a certain way. Good player. I think our game could do without that play. We have an injured player right now based on it. I think he could have gotten blocked a little bit differently, but that’s about all I can probably say about it.”

Allen has commented on the fine yet but he did say after the game that he didn’t intend to hurt Louis.

Allen said:

“I never, ever try to intentionally hurt anybody. Just trying to make a block and spring our guys down sidelines. That’s unfortunate.”

Allen doesn’t have a reputation as a dirty player (unlike Ndamukong Suh who was also fined this week) so his hit against Louis, as well as his fine, comes as a bit of a surprise.

Jay Cutler said:

“I was surprised by it to be honest. He’s not that type of guy. He plays extremely hard. He does usually do things the right way. I have always respected him. It kind of caught me off guard. You look at the play and he hit him with the head. He did all the things he shouldn’t do. Whether there is a fine, it will be up to the league office. But I don’t think it is indicative of the type of player or person he is.”

Do you think Jared Allen deserved to be fined?
