NHL Power Rankings
Now we have another new feature here at the Inquisitr. Each Thursday we shall take a look at the team rankings for the NHL. While the NHL season is but a week old we will have a lot of comers and goers over the next six months of NHL hockey. In fact through the opening games of the season we have already seen a few teams get off to slow starts. With all of that being said here is a look at the NHL power rankings for week one of the NHL schedule.
1. Pittsburgh Penguins- Sidney Crosby is off to a good start
2. Washington Capitals- Both their goalies have gotten wins
3. Calgary Flames- In his first two games Miikka Kiprusoff had 70 saves
4. Philadelphia Flyers- The Eastern Conference better watch out for this team
5. Chicago Blackhawks- Off to a strong start in Finland, this team can claim the Central with a win against Detroit
6. Detroit Red Wings- The trip to Sweden was not good
7. San Jose Sharks- Heatley and Thornton are getting attention from top defenders
8. Boston Bruins- Patrice Bergeton has a goal and two assists in two games
9. St. Louis Blues- two players coming back from injuries look good
10. New York Rangers- Top line is clicking
11. Montreal Canadiens- Injuries are starting to pile up
12. Vancouver Canucks- 77 shot in first two games only net three goals
13. Columbus Blue Jackets- Managing Steve Mason’s starts are now the concern
14. Anaheim Ducks- Goalie Giguere is being showcased early
15. Carolina Hurricanes- Erik Cole’s injury has forced a slow start
16. New Jersey Devils- Patrick Elias will start skating this week, and the Devils need him
17. Buffalo Sabres- Only one start so far
18. Toronto Maple Leafs- Vesa Toskala’s time here could be coming to an end
19. Florida Panthers- Randy Sexton’s GM promotion was long over due
20. Dallas Stars- Loul Erikson needs to improve to justify his 4.25 million cap number
21. Nashville Predators- Dan Ellis has started in goal, kind of a surprise
22. Los Angeles Kings- Sloppy play led to boos
23. Minnesota Wild- With a new coach there will be a learning curve
24. Edmonton Oilers- Their goalies gift wrapped a winning goal for the Flames
25. Atlanta Thrashers- 11 different players scored a point in their opener
26. Phoenix Coyotes- This team is distracted
27. Colorado Avalanche- This is a team rebuilding
28. Tampa Bay Lightning- They will not ease Victor Hedman into the NHL
29. New York Islanders- relocation distraction will last the season
30. Ottawa Senators- Alex Kovalev needs to shoot more
