Brooke Astor’s son Anthony Marshall found guilty of stealing her $200 million fortune

Anthony Marshall, the son of famed New York philanthropist Brooke Astor has been found guilty of looting his mother’s $200 million fortune.

85 year old Marshall was found guilty on 14 counts, including first-degree grand larceny and scheming to defraud, and faces a mandatory jail sentence of between one year to 25 years.

The jury heard that Marshall, a former US Ambassador and Broadway producer took advantage of his elderly mother who suffered from Alzheimer’s Disease and anemia, spending her fortune while denying her even basic care.

The story first surfaced in 2006 when her grandson (and Marshall’s son) Philip Cryan Marshall filed a lawsuit seeking the removal of his father as Astor’s guardian. Astor was reported to be living in squalor at the time.

Sadly Brooke Astor passed away in 2007.
