Garmin Nuvi 1690 Now Shipping, But It Will Cost You $500

In the days of $100 GPS units, phones with GPS capabilities and free software, it’s hard for me to justify spending any money on a GPS unit, let alone $500 for a Garmin Nuvi 1690. That’s the price the units are listed for on Amazon.

The Nuvi 1690 features connected PND capabilities including real-time Google Searches with location based searching, weather reports, flight status updates and a ton of other features, then again so does my laptop, cell phone and every other device I own that cost less than $500.

The “connected” services are free for the first two years, at which point you’ll end up handing over more of your paycheck for monthly fees.
