What is Favre’s legacy now?

Brett Favre became the only QB to beat all 32 current NFL teams last night in an impressive win against his old team the Green Bay Packers. Many media outlets are quick to say that this performance cements Favre as one of the best QB’s in all NFL history. However many sports fans don’t quite see it that way. While each fan has their own top ten list of great NFL QB’s Favre still barely makes my top ten list of the greatest NFL QB’s.

Maybe that is not fair, but beating all 32 teams doesn’t seem that impressive to me. In fact Kerry Collins will have a shot at that record later this year when his Tennessee Titans play the Miami Dolphins. On top of that two other franchise QB’s, Tom Brady and Peyton Manning, have beaten 31 teams. So let’s throw that stat out of the window.

I don’t think there is any argument that Favre still ranks behind Joe Montana, John Elway, and Johnny Unitas. Then there is a second tier of guys like Jim Kelly, Peyton Manning, Dan Marino, and Tom Brady. I think Favre ends up in the third tier of guys with the likes of Terry Bradshaw, Ben Rothlisberger, Tory Aikman, and Steve Young. Depending on your personal preferences Favre is then just inside the top ten or just outside.

Now on the back of last night’s 24 for 32 271 yard, 3 TD performance Favre is trending up. He will turn 40 years old this week and if he can guide this team to the playoffs, win a playoff game, and earn a Super Bowl birth for the Vikings, and then Favre clearly should be inside the top ten of great QB’s.
