Dan Senor, Mitt Romney Adviser, Blasts Republicans For Deserting His Candidate

Dan Senor, a top adviser to the Mitt Romney Campaign, blasted his fellow Republicans for being fast to throw Romney under the bus after his loss to President Obama. Republicans have been accusing Romney of running a lackluster campaign that was fraught with missteps. They claim it was Romney’s fault that a very beatable Obama was able to retain the Presidency.

Speaking on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Senor called the trend “stunning.” He said that it is stunning to see the same people who were cozying up to Romney when they thought he may win are trashing him on defeat.

Senor described a particular campaign rally in Cincinnati in the days before the election.

“Tens of thousands of people, you could feel the energy, a hundred top-tier Romney surrogates were at the event. I’m backstage with some of them — I won’t mention their names — but they’re talking about Romney like he’s Reagan. ‘His debate performances were the best performances of any Republican nominee in presidential history. He’s iconic.’ They were talking about him because they believed he was going to win in four or five days. And in fact, some of them were already talking to our transition to position themselves for a Romney cabinet.”

Then Romney lost and they changed their tune so quickly it made their heads spin. He said:

“They were on television, it was unbelievable, it was five, six days later, absolutely eviscerating [Romney].”

Senor didn’t call out anybody in particular, but it is more likely he is speaking out of respect to not name names. He also thinks that the general Romney bashing is being carried out by those looking to position themselves for 2016.

Senor’s rant was not without criticism of the 2012 election cycle. He said that Republicans sticking up for millionaires, slamming immigrants and even the misplaced optimism after the first debate all contributed to an Obama win.
