Cecil Singleton, Elmo Puppeteer’s Second Accuser, Details Allegations In X-Rated Lawsuit

Cecil Singleton — one of the two men who levied allegations that precipitated Elmo puppeteer Kevin Clash’s resignation from Sesame Workshop today — is suing the former voice of the beloved furry red monster for $5 million dollars, filing a salacious lawsuit that details an alleged torrid affair Singleton claimed occurred when he was just 15.

Cecil Singleton is no longer an underage boy, and an original report had the alleged abuse occurring nearly 20 years ago, back in 1993. The report has since been amended and attributed to a typo, with Singleton now 24 and not 34, as was originally reported.

Kevin Clash’s second accuser Cecil Singleton came forward today, publicly, a week after a first younger man accused Clash of engaging in inappropriate relations with him when he was a minor.

Sheldon Stephens, now also in his 20s, says that the Elmo puppeteer dated and romanced him when he was just 16, though Clash said the relationship occurred when Stephens was an adult and was mutually consensual. Stephens originally recanted his story, but soon claimed he had been paid off to keep quiet and restated the allegations.

Elmo puppeteer Kevin Clash’s resignation came earlier today, just as the Cecil Singleton allegations were breaking. A lawyer for the alleged victim provided a picture of him to TMZ, which many have pointed out is an unusual move for sex abuse victim reporting their story.

Even more unusually, Cecil Singleton called a press conference today to discuss his allegations against Kevin Clash as well as the $5 million lawsuit, seeking damages for emotional and psychological effects he says Clash’s relationship with him caused.

TMZ reports some details of Singleton’s allegations, saying:

“According to Singleton, his sexual relationship with Clash began when he was 15 and Clash was an adult … and initially lasted for 2 weeks. But they picked things up a while later … Singleton claims that while they never had sexual intercourse, the two did engage in several sexual activities together … including “groping, masturbation, intense kissing, dry-humping.”

Cecil Singleton also claims the pair eventually had sex when he was of legal age, but that he dumped Clash, believing the Elmo puppeteer was too invested in the relationship.
