ER Doc DUI: Car Crash Recorded On Traffic Cam [Surveillance Video]

Wellesley, MA – An emergency room doctor who was allegedly self medicating lost control of her vehicle, smashed into several cars at an intersection, and was charged with DUI and other offenses.

In the surveillance video (see below), the suspect, who was behind the wheel of an SUV, comes out of nowhere from the left, sails through the air, and hits two cars.

Boston’s Channel 7, WHDH, and other media outlets identified the physician as Kristin Howard, 56, an emergency room doctor at Newton-Wellesley hospital. Her lawyer noted that Howard previously received a Doctor of the Year award from the hospital, but that has yet to be confirmed.

According to WHDH, “The wild ride that began in the Whole Foods parking lot on Route 16 in Wellesley left a 78-year-old Wellesley man hospitalized with two broken bones.” The victim was hospitalized at the same hospital where Howard works.

According to the Boston Globe, Dr. Howard — who was arrested at the scene — faces the the following charges: “operating under the influence of liquor and drugs causing serious bodily injury, possession of a Class C drug, possession of a Class E drug, and two counts of leaving the scene of an accident.”

Prosecutors claim that the meds found the car were prescribed by the doctor to herself.

Howard has pleaded not guilty to all charges. While the case is pending, the court will require her to undergo random drug and alcohol testing and stay off the roads.
