Los Angeles Lakers Continue To Struggle, Drop To 1-4 With Loss To Utah

The Los Angeles Lakers came into this season with aspirations of unseating the Miami Heat and winning the NBA Championship.

A little more than a week into the season, they’ll just settle for a win.

The team dropped to 1-4 on Wednesday with a 95-86 loss to the Utah Jazz. The struggles of the Los Angeles Lakers come as a surprise given the offseason they had, adding Dwight Howard and Steve Nash.

Howard had a good game against the Jazz, scoring 19 points, but Kobe Bryant struggled. As ESPN noted, Kobe took only one shot in the first quarter and was 1 of 4 at haftime. Kobe eventually came to life, ending the game with 29 points including 15 of 17 from the free throw line.

Losing Steve Nash to injury has also hurt the Los Angeles Lakers so far this season, the Los Angeles Times noted:

“Additionally, the Lakers’ 19 turnovers didn’t help matters. That’s been a recurring problem for Coach Mike Brown‘s squad as they work to learn his offense and play without Steve Nash (non-displaced leg fracture).”

Though it is early in the season and the team has yet to publicly show signs of panic, it is disconcerting to Los Angeles Lakers fans to see the team stumbling out of the gate. The competition in the Western Conference remains fierce, with a reinvigorated Oklahoma City Thunder still the team to beat. If the Lakers can’t turn it around soon, the team could find itself on the outside of championship contenders looking in.
