‘WWE SmackDown LIVE’ And ‘205 Live’ Results: Three Entrants And New Title Match Announced For ‘Royal Rumble’

WWE’s most popular real-life couple — John Cena and Nikki Bella — were both scheduled for action on this week’s SmackDown LIVE, less than three weeks before WWE Royal Rumble 2017. John Cena’s frustration with WWE’s “New Era” stars would come to a head as he went one-on-one with Baron Corbin. And Nikki Bella, who was attacked from behind by Natalya before her big match at Survivor Series, suffered yet another sneak-attack from the only woman to ever graduate from the notorious Hart Dungeon.

WWE SmackDown LIVE Results

The following includes the results of all the matches and segments from SmackDown LIVE, 205 Live, and Talking Smack on January 10. SmackDown LIVE finally defeated Monday Night Raw in the ratings during the last week of 2016, but Monday Night Raw won the ratings last week. Will John Cena vs. Baron Corbin, Nikki Bella vs. Natalya and American Alpha vs. The Wyatt Family be enough for Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan’s show to defeat WWE Raw in the ratings once again?

Dean Ambrose gave The Miz an award

In the first segment of this week’s SmackDown LIVE, new WWE Intercontinental Champion Dean Ambrose hosted another edition of The Ambrose Asylum, with The Miz and Maryse as his guests. After both Ambrose and The Miz announced that they were joining the Royal Rumble Match, Dean gave Mike a participation award. Things got physical, with Ambrose coming out the better of the two.

Nikki Bella vs. Natalya turned into a fight

After Natalya attacked Nikki Bella on her way to the ring for the first match of the night, the two were never able to settle down long enough to get an official match going. Instead, the two of them fought through a team of referees, the brawl eventually ending with Natalya putting Nikki in the Sharpshooter outside the ring.

Kalisto defeated Dolph Ziggler — Ziggler attacked Kalisto and Apollo Crews

Dolph Ziggler returned to being a heel last week when he delivered a superkick to Kalisto after the luchadore saved him from a post-match beat-down at the hands of Baron Corbin. Kalisto got a clean win over Ziggler this week, but Dolph didn’t take the loss lightly. Instead, he used a chair to attack Kalisto after the match. When Apollo Crews tried to make the save, he received the same treatment from The Showoff.

John Cena admitted to being a “Has Been”

Renee Young interviewed John Cena backstage about his match with Baron Corbin later in the show. Cena said that AJ Styles and Corbin called him a “has been” last week, something that no one has called him before. He went on in the interview to say that he’ll show Corbin just how motivated those comments made him.

American Alpha defeated The Wyatt Family

In a rematch for the SmackDown Tag Team Championship, Chad Gable and Jason Jordan were successful in their match against Bray Wyatt and Randy Orton. After the match, thanks to another miscommunication between Orton and Luke Harper, the Eater of Worlds had to step in between the two to keep things from getting explosive within the Wyatt Family.

Daniel Bryan booked Women’s Title Steel Cage Match

In a backstage segment with General Manager Daniel Bryan, Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss and Becky Lynch, it was announced that next week would feature the first-ever Women’s Championship Steel Cage Match on SmackDown LIVE.

Carmella defeated CJ Lunde with help from James Ellsworth

CJ Lunde, one of the most unusual jobbers featured on WWE television since James Ellsworth himself, kept up with Carmella for most of the match. James’ interference was more awkward than impactful, and there were more than a couple of botched spots in this match.

In a backstage segment shown later, it was revealed that Carmella and Ellsworth haven’t even kissed yet, and that she’s taking him on a shopping spree next week and giving him a makeover.

John Cena defeated Baron Corbin

Despite being on guest commentary at ringside for the duration of the match, WWE Champion AJ Styles never physically got involved in the main event. However, he did provide something of a distraction for Cena and Corbin, with real tension being built between Styles and Corbin during the match and in a pre-match backstage interview segment.

Talking Smack on the WWE Network

SmackDown Commissioner Shane McMahon sat in for General Manager Daniel Bryan as the co-host of Talking Smack with Renee Young. Their first guests were Becky Lynch and SmackDown Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss, who will compete in a Steel Cage Match next week for the title. They all discussed the mystery of La Luchadora before Shane brought up the fact that neither of these women have ever competed in a Cage Match previously.

Their next guest was Mojo Rawley, who talked about Zack Ryder’s injury and Mojo’s plans for redefining himself as a singles competitor. Finally, Dolph Ziggler came on the show to talk about his recent heel turn and to announce his entry into the Royal Rumble Match.

WWE 205 Live Results

The following includes the results of all the matches and segments from WWE 205 Live on January 10. Although it’s unclear whether any of the 205 Live competitors will be entering the Royal Rumble Match, there is certainly plenty of drama going on in the Cruiserweight Division, most of which was addressed on 205 Live.

Noam Dar defeated Cedric Alexander

Just when it looked like Cedric Alexander was going to hit a spectacular top rope finisher and get a victory over Noam Dar, Alicia Fox pulled the Scottish Supernova out of the way, leading to her boyfriend’s eventual defeat.

When Noam Dar tried to kiss Alicia after the match, she violently pushed him away. Later, in a backstage segment, Cedric broke up with Alicia. Somewhat predictably, she completely freaked out afterwards.

The Brian Kendrick defeated Sean Maluta

Prior to his match against Sean Maluta, The Brian Kendrick got on the mic to talk about the encounter he had with Tajiri last week, saying he was upset that Tajiri would throw away a friendship of over twenty years. Since Tajiri beat Maluta last week, Kendrick said the young superstar wouldn’t last thirty seconds with him. While he certainly lasted longer than thirty seconds, Kendrick got the win.

Jack Gallagher and Ariya Daivari signed contract for “I Forfeit” Match

When Ariya Daivari came to the ring to accept Jack Gallagher’s invitation for a “parley,” there was a table set up like a standard contract signing segment. Gallagher challenged Daivari to an “I Forfeit” Match, which Gallagher gladly accepted. Of course, things got physical, and a team of referees had to keep them separated.

Rich Swann defeated Tony Nese

In this non-title main event, WWE Cruiserweight Champion Rich Swann defeated Tony Nese without any outside interference. After the match, Swann called out Neville, who challenged the champion to a title match at Royal Rumble 2017. Swann gladly accepted the challenge.
