‘Wilfred’ Returns For Third Season On FX

, the FX series with Elijah Wood and Jason Gann will get another walk around the network’s block for a third season.

The eccentric half-hour series follows Elijah Wood, a distressed, young attorney who buddies up with a neighbor’s human-like dog, named Wilfred, who is played by Jason Gann and will be renewed for the third season, The Wrapreports.

Wilfred really is man’s best friend to Ryan (Wood’s character). Although Wilfred is not your typical dog, instead he talks, smokes pot and has a serious stuffed animal fetish. But everyone else thinks Wilfred is just another cute canine pal.

The Wilfred series is an Australian original, co-created by and starring Jason Gann, which David Zuckerman adapted for the FX network. Writers for the show, Reed Agnew and Eli Jorné will both executive-produce and take care of the show running duties, during season three, Zap2It.comreports.

FX’s executive vice president of original programming in a statement, Nick Grad released a statement about the inevitability of the network picking up the show:

“As [network president] John (Landgraf) said at the summer TCA, it was only a matter of time before we picked up the show, we just had to work some things out. David Zuckerman has done an amazing job adapting and reconceiving ‘Wilfred’ for FX. It was his decision to step down from the showrunner’s post, but we’re very happy he is going to stay involved with the show. Both we and David have great faith in the ability of Reed and Eli to seamlessly step up and take over the reins. I have no doubt they’ll do a great job.”

For the second season, Wilfred averaged 2.63 million total viewers, enticing FX to pick it up for a third season.
