Sheri Shermeyer: Pennsylvania Mom Suffocates Infant Son In Bizarre Murder-Suicide After Posting Creepy Message On Facebook
Pennsylvania mom Sheri Shermeyer suffocated her baby boy and then shot herself in the head a day after Christmas, according to local police officers.
The bodies of the Pennsylvania mom and her infant son, John, were discovered by police officers inside her home in Shrewsbury Township on Monday afternoon. Sheri Shermeyer used a pillow to smother her 12-month-old baby, the Daily Mail reports.
Shermeyer posted a message on Facebook prior to the Pennsylvania murder-suicide. Posted at around 11:30 a.m. on Monday, the message stated her husband would never see their baby boy again. The dead bodies were found when police officers were urged to do a welfare check on the 40-year-old mom and the infant, the York Dispatch reports.
“I always thought of myself to be a strong person. I’ve been through Hell and back and still had a smile. I’ve lost too many people; family, friends, pets, jobs etc. But as of late I don’t feel so strong,” Sheri Shermeyer’s Facebook message reportedly read.
“I have been slowly dying inside. I’m confused, just torn down, hardly ever go out in public anymore, don’t socialize with people, I’ve become a hermit,” the Pennsylvania mom went on to state in the same Facebook post. “I feel that the ONLY thing I have to live for is this little guy asleep in my arms right now, John. He is the only reason why I haven’t blown my head off right now.”

Sheri Shermeyer’s Facebook post then turned extremely dark and appeared to spark worry about the safety of the Pennsylvania mom and her baby boy.
“And even now, all I can think about is leaving this world. Putting a gun in my mouth and leaving. Which is what is going to happen,” the Pennsylvania mom who suffocated her baby and then shot herself shared on her Facebook page about two hours before their bodies were found.
Shermeyer also added she was tired of being told, presumably by friends and loved ones, that the “grass is greener somewhere else.” In the social media post before the murder-suicide, she also pointed out that she was “tired of crying.”
Sheri Shermeyer’s Facebook post included a message directed to the father of her infant son. “You will never see your son again. You don’t deserve to have a son, to have a legacy,” she added.
It appears Sheri Shermeyer and the father of her child were estranged. Details about the baby’s father and the state of the relationship between him and the mother, remain unclear. Details about the gruesome murder-suicide are still evolving and being updated by local media outlets.
Coroner Pam Gay told reporters a man, who she referred to as Shermeyer’s husband, was not at home at the time of the murder-suicide. Gay added the unidentified man arrived on the scene around the same time as police officers got to the house for the welfare check.
Shermeyer did address her reasons for posting the message, which some are now deeming a suicide note, in the same post on Facebook.
“Why am I putting this on social media for all to see? Because this seems to be the only way you will listen or see it,” the Pennsylvania mom added. “Seems to p**s you off when I put ‘something out there’. So here it is for all to see. You’re not so great a guy, you’re an a–hole who deserves to be alone. Good bye, good riddance, wish I never wasted these past years with you. Hope I don’t see you in Hell.”
Autopsies on both Sheri Shermeyer and the baby are scheduled to be conducted on Wednesday at Lehigh Valley Hospital. Pennsylvania law enforcement investigators are currently considering Shermeyer’s death a suicide and the death of the infant boy a homicide.
